What's more important? (Cable quality)
I wonder if you guys can tell me if it's more important for the pedalboard's patch cables to be the high quality cables (i.e. george L's, etc), or should the guitar to board -- board to amp be the good quality cables? Lets say I could only afford to either get a pedalboard cable kit or two quality instrument cables to connect your guitar and amp, which would you guys choose?
I hope this made sence. Thanks in advance guys |

If you've already got your pedals connected (if so, which cable are you using for the pedalboard?) then the answer is easy: get a couple of nicer cables for guitar -> board and board -> amp. I wasn't really able to hear a difference when I upgraded my pedalboard cables (I actually sold the upgraded pedalboard cables, that's how little a difference it made for me)...but then again I only use ~8 pedals or so. When I switched my longer cable lengths, however, the difference was immediately obvious...and I only use 12' cables. The difference would be far greater, imho, if you used even longer cables. My experience says that, when it comes to a pedalboard, examining the quality and placement of pedals with buffers is way more significant to "tone suck" than cable quality. BTW, you don't even need to spend a fortune to get really nice cable. I went to lavacable.com and chose two 12' runs of their house-brand LavaELC and it's really nice. There's a fella in the Emporium right now selling a pair of 10' Sommer Stratos cables that I would jump on in a heartbeat if I didn't already have the ELC's (I'm not affiliated to that seller, btw
).I hope that helps you out. Remember: my opinion + busfare will get you on the bus .

My biggest issue with pedalboard cables is how well do they hold up. I think as long as your using something decent, get the cables to and from the board sorted first, then upgrade the pedal section later if needed.
We change pedals, get bored, change again....so I want something that stays together well.

I have two Lava Gepco cables (guitar-board, board to amp) and the cables on the board are mixed. I went from Radio Shack cables to George L's to Lava solderless.
Side note: The Radio Shack ones were better than I thought they would be. Go figure... |

My priority after spending a little time with this whole cable thing:
1. Guitar to 1st pedal 2. Last pedal to amp 3. Pedals Now, you do have the additional capacitance of multiple plugs with your pedal cables and this can add up, as well as the capacitive effect of the cable length. uiltimately, using the same brand or cable type throughput is the best solution as well as keeping lengths as short as you can within you specific stage/home use requirements...

rather than a great guitar to 1rst pedal/last pedal to amp and crappy pedal connections, I would go "good" all around...your signal is only as good as the weakest link...ONE crappy cable is all it takes to push a crappy signal through a great cable...crappy signal through awesome cable = crappy signal
