There's a glowing review of it in the current TapeOp. It made me want one in a bad way. The reviewer didn't want to like it going in , but was won over by the sound.

Hmmm, haven't heard the LC but ime, if it seems to good to be true, it is too good to be true.

They reviewed it in either EQ or PAR - can't remember which, offhand.

This particular reviewer said that it comes very close to the originals, but that the sounds aren't perfectly nailed.

I'd look at it more as a sound shaping tool, than as a way to replicate exactly the sounds of famous preamps; ie, you can find the right compressor, EQ, etc, for a particular voice or instrument, and can find a nice sounding pre for each mic.

It does have the analog transformer-based high end focusriter mic pre, so it is at least starting out with one of Rupert Neve's better designs. Evidently it's a nice A/D front end as well.

I'd really like to have one, by the way. It would make for a lot of fun in the studio; unfortunately I just bought an ISA 220 and I have other priorities for refitting my studio.

If it's, say, 90% nailed on par, i can't imagine a more efficient tool for auditioning chains for singers, etc (at present, anyhoo). All from the comfort of the control room.

I would've been inclined to agree, until working with the powered plugin emulations from UAD.

Incidentally, why are you (non-PT) Mac guys still sleeping on these?

+1 on that...................It would be a great tool for someone like me. I do everything with a Roland 2480, which is great and has preamp moddeling thanks to the new vs3f card, but I'm sure the Focusrite is that much more involved. I'd love to record some guitars with it...................yummy!!!

I know nothing of the preamp modelling on the 2480, but i'd wager the LC is in another class altogether. It should be, for the price.

It isn't perfect but it is very good. I got to hear it last month and I agree with Basso its an amazing tool for auditioning different signal chains. It's very usuable and will give you a lot of different sounds that are VERY SIMILAR to the real thing, if not exact. But for those of us who can only afford one or two great pieces of gear in our recording chain then it is a phenominal value. It's on my ever growing short list. I wish it was stereo at the same price point, but that's just me being cheap.
