Country lick - Brent Mason inspired

Here is a country lick inspired by Brent Mason. I don't play the country chicken picking style enough, so his stuff is hard to play for me, but it sounds cool when I get it right.

Have a look at this Brent Mason style lick and let me know what you think.

I used my Squier Tele for this, playing through a Toneport and using GearBox software with AC30 amp model.

Hey Robert, awesome lick...sounds very authentic to me. It's a style of playing that I absolutely love and constantly working on. Hybrid chicken' pickin' can be a real bitch, but you did a great job with that lick. I always enjoy the stuff you come up with.

Thanks, glad you likey... that kind of playing is hard for me though. Have to work hard at it.

I try to come up with a variety of lessons to keep interest up, although blues is closest to me I guess. I might try some shred stuff next!

The first 3 notes on the B string are E, F, and D#, while the A# on the E string stays put. The first note E is hammered-on up to F. I wrote is as a bend in the Tab, but it's really a hammer-on with the middle and ring finger. I use Guitar Pro 5 for writing this down, and if I use a hammer-on when entering the notes, I can't get it to sound right. The GP5 file sounds correct when played.

The only criticism I have is in your notation...since the lick is based over a Bb7 chord, you should write it out in the key of Bb.

Use Bb instead of A#, and Eb instead of D# etc. I think it'll make it much easier for most people to read/understand.

Good point, sorry about that. I just entered the notes in GP5 and didn't pay attention to how it labeled the notes. Sorry.

Update - Chris S. sent me a correct GP5 file, which is exactly how I play it on the video. Thumbs up for Chris!
