NGD -- Rice and K-Line T's

Well, strictly speaking not New Guitar Day since the K-line actually arrived a few days ago, but I was waiting till the Rice arrived today to take some pics. Too bad I'm not very good with the camera, but this one shot will give you the basic idea.

They are pretty similar Tele's, not sure what I was thinking when I bought both of them, but I sure am happy I did it. Chris built the sonic blue K-Line for me, so I was able to ask for things like the Barden bridge with the cutaway bridge plate and a 7.25 radius. The Rice is #110, now without the matching seafoam green headstock, that I picked up here on TGP from johnnyqb and Chris and Rich were nice enough to refinish the headstock for me at a very reasonable price . My sincere thanks to Chris K and Messrs Rice for the outstanding work on these instruments. Both of them hit the nail on the head -- great looking, great sounding guitars that are extremely comfortable to play. These are my first "relics", and I'm in some ways not a fan of that phenomenon [eg the totally overdone and identical fretboard wear on the RW Teles], but I decided that this was the best way to get a guitar that feels really good to play. I believe this approach was successful --the necks on both of them are so smooth -- I keep noticing that as I'm playing, brings a smile to my face. Picking these guitars up and playing them feels like putting on your favorite old leather jacket. Ahhhh !

Both have nice chunky V to C necks with rosewood boards. I thought I was a skinny neck guy, but these two guitars have me convinced that is not the case. Super comfortable. The Rice is a little heavier at just over 8 lbs, I'd say the K-Line is close to 7. Both light relic jobs, though you can't see it in this pic but the Rice has some nice checking and some paint chips on the back. Two Lollars in the K-Line, and a Lollar and a Don Mare [neck] in the Rice.

Both of them sound really, really good. Resonant, woody, open tone, balanced pickups, classic Tele sounds. Slight differences in tone between the two which I will be exploring thoroughly over the coming days. I have not really picked up another guitar since the K-Line arrived, at least not until Mr Fedex showed up with the Rice today. I expect these two Tele's to be my go-to guitars for some time to come. For the first time in long time, I don't feel the urge to look for, much less buy, the next guitar. I'm sure that won't last forever, but it is kinda of a peaceful feeling :> And now with all the time I'm going to be saving not trolling for guitars, maybe I'll invest more time in learning how to play a little better !

Thanks again to Chris, Chris and Rich, and johnnyqb
