Brownface Princeton Bias
What should the 6v6's in a Brownface Princeton be biased at?
I've heard that Fender typically let these go out the door biased a little cold. What would be most optimal? Thanks! |

I've got mine set at ~ 22mA @ 396V on the plates which is a plate dissipation at idle of ~ 72% of 12 watts. Seems like anywhere between 65% and 72% sounds sweet.
It seems the wall voltage is here fluctuating lately. It's up 1 volt today from last night. Might seem minuscule, but a couple of volts difference at the wall can make a significant change to the amp's plate voltage.

I was gonna say 18-22ma. Let your ears be your guide within the range.

I have about 122v coming from my wall socket.I'm using a 5R4 rectifier in my '65 blackface NR Deluxe with the tubes at 20ma@400v
Try either a 5V4 or 5R4 rectifier to bring your B+ down. |

Thanks. Excellent idea in a blackface, but we're talking about brown Princetons with a 5Y3.

My bad. In any case, around 20ma in the 400 volt range should be about right.
Also, different branded 5Y3's put out different voltages. I find my RCA 5Y3GT and Bendix 6106's put out up to 7 volts more than my Sylvania's or GE 6087's. In my Martin 112, I get 323v with the two former and 315v with the two latter. |

That has been my experience as well with different 5Y3s.
