Superman: Fortress of Solitude

Here's another title from the Superman series I'm working on.
Just to recap it is a film being made by students of NYU/Tisch. These guys are not allowed to use any copyrighted music and I enjoy doing these things for them. This is DC approved because it is Non-Profit Non Revenue earning.

Obviously about the Fortress of Solitude. I was going for an "aching, loneliness" and I have to do it (at the Director's request) in the style of John Williams (which I find a bit frustrating).
This is not how you'll hear it in the film because it is made of a compilation of cues (some of which may not actually be in the film). It is still being shot as I write (in Yonkers, of all places...).
I may complain about the JW bit but doing such projects is actually very stimulating.

Cheers, Pete.

Really lovely, Pete - just as I've learned to anticipate from your work.

Thanks, Dave - if I ever need vocals I know where to come.

I was reading that other thread about "No Country for Old Men" - the lack of music. Well this ain't that!
Subtlety ala Splatt goes out of the window when it comes to superheroes. Again, thanks for taking a listen.

Best, Pete.

Wow Pete, that was fantastic.
Beautiful, a little ominous and a dash of mystery.
Great job!
Cheers,
Jason

Now you've heard my music!
This is why I suck on the guitar nowadays..............
I'm glad you liked it, Jay - hey, even your Wife might like it!

Best, Pete.

Thanx, GS6 - I know you understand the limitation I'm working under but it is still good fun! I kind of compare it to a watch spring slowly unwinding......
Best, Pete.

I am ignorant of the Fortress of Solitude, other than the one in which I live. However, relaxing, peaceful, serene come to mind.

You really do have a talent for this work Pete. I hope it continues to grow for you.

Thanks, Greg - I was looking for "loneliness" - but I'll take whatever you hand out my friend!
Best, Pete.

I imagine that when your score and the film are one, the lonliness feeling will come across with no trouble.

Yes, you're right the movie is now in FX stage. It's freaking difficult writing to a guy on a green screen! We help each other - I write a theme for each situation - email the director. Hopefully it inspires him and others then I finalize the cues when I see it again coded up.
The really amazing thing to me is that I've doing 90% of this in Garageband because it's cheap, I can work real fast in it but still has the necessary quality (this movie will be website based and episodic like the old Saturday morning pictures).

Best, Pete.

It sounds like you're able to do the work inexpensively, which is, I'm sure, a big help.

I just gave it another listen. I missed the bell at the end the first time. I bet that works beautifully with the film. Nice.

Greg, The other thing that surprises people is that I use a tiny 25 key "controller" - the M-Audio KeyRig 25. It works fine, though I wouldn't advise anyone using it live! That bell for example is actually part of a loop I chopped up and extracted. I liked it because it already came with reverb that just gave it a nice sense of space - without me fiddling around for hours.

Thing is, until I get my purpose built studio in the basement I'm short of space and I always say that you can do something with anything; otherwise you are just looking for excuses not to start at all.

Best, Pete.
