Counterfeit Guitar Bust

Anyone else hear about this? I didn't until just now.

I think I remember seeing these websites. It just don't pay.

EDIT: I just noticed that this is from the Gibson website, so I'm sure most have seen it.

So I'm just wondering how many of these are out there in circulation?

And where did this woman go to prison, China or here?

These were just bad fakes..... like the jeans and handbags. Easy to spot.

I'm pretty sure I have seen those, at least one that I can remember, on CL locally.

one supplier down.. how many more to go..?
it is almost amazing that gibson managed to defend themselves beyond the US borders. I thought chinese (and other) bootleggers and counterfeiters were impervious to all laws known to mankind.

wow. i am actually a little happy a large corporation just nailed someone. maybe im not getting enough sleep?

I was looking for a Gibson Barney Kessel hollowbody. These haven't been made in decades and the one out there are fairly expensive (like $3000+). So imagine my surprize when I find an ad that says ORIGINAL 1962 GIBSON BARNEY KESSEL **RARE**. the pic looked right. Then I saw the price... $250... and he had 6 in stock. I had to laugh.

I saw one that a local shop had in on consignment. It was pretty obvoius, poor quality. I pointed it out to the shop owner... he said he thought something looked odd about it (he used to be a Gibson dealer). Next time I went in it was gone.... he had called the guy and asked him to come and get his guitar.

I read comments all the time about the fakes saying "Gibsun", but for whatever reason, people don't realize that's how the real Gibson logo is written too (with an opening at the top of the O.)

So yeah, that's just how they are and it's absolutely not a good way to spot a fake.

It kind of bothers me. I'm by no means a Gibson expert, but I would sure like to think that I could spot one of those. Especially with the truss rod cover.

Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to copy the truss rod cover?

Her first set of web hosting companies dropped her, so she had to know something, like maybe an investigation, was going on, but she just gets different web hosts, as if she's above the law.

I'm thinking three years in a China prison is probably a lot different than three years here?

I'm glad they are lousy copies.

So since they're out of business, does that mean my Musoland copy will now be worth more money?

(just kidding!)

Not music, but as a pet lover, I really like what this Old Country Vet has to say;

I have seen at least 3 around here, a Zakk copy, and 2 customs. Not very good guitars but can be deceiving.
