Anyone Run Pedals Into a Vox AmPlug?

Been thinking about buying either the AC30 or lead models, got to wondering if anyone has stuck one at the end of their pedalboard and with what kind of results?

I have run a chorus and a distortion or OD pedal into mine, they sounded fine. Have you seen that new little speaker cab for them that just came out?

The cab is just too cute. I'm definitely going to have to pick one up.

i didnt try the amplug but i wanted to...

i ended up buying a digitech rp155 for this purpose though

i'm mounting it upside down underneath my trailer trash board and putting it in an a/b looper at the end of my signal chain. basically so that when i cant use my amp i'll hit the a/b switch and it will go into the digitech and out the headphones into my ears. i didnt want to waste space on it on my board and i dont need to tweak it much, just a decent clean tone to build on top of, so i figured hiding it under the board would be perfect.

its actually very good for this purpose and sounds way better than i figured it would since i'm pretty much a boutique whore at this point... but the effects on it are mostly garbage.... esp the OD/distortion...

I've run it with my pedalboard- delays, reverb, and modulation stuff works great. Dirt boxes work but don't sound as good, especially fuzz boxes. I usually just plug it into my Lo-Fi Loop Junky and that works really well, really fun for late night headphone jamming, and really portable since it's all battery powered.

When I run the Amplug with a couple of pedals, I just plug it into the last pedal in line, and of course plug the headphones into the Amplug. I've even run an 1/8" plug cable from the headphone output of the Amplug into the Aux jack of my little bedroom stereo system, as an amp system. Works pretty well, so I'd think that you could also run it into a guitar amp with a cable with a 1/8" plug on one end and a 1/4" on the other (or use an adapter on a regular guitar cable). You'd just be using the Amplug like a pedal in that case. A guitar amp would obviously color the Voxy tone of the Amplug a bit, but it would work at least. I haven't tried a fuzz through it, but I've used a couple of different OD's to get a bit more distortion out of the Amplug, in line with a chorus pedal, and it sounded fine to me. Maybe it depends on the pedal you use.

Not sure if you've seen this one, but it was done with pedals/rack delay running into the vox amplug.

Any more feedback on running pedals into an Amplug?

I have a Pocket Pod but it gets noisy when I run pedals into it for some reason. So I'm considering an Amplug.

Or suggest something else that isn't expensive.

It'll never replace a good amp, but for headphone practicing it works fine and does work with many pedals --- fuzzes, definitely not. It can be a bit noisy with higher gain settings. I've had good luck running tubescreamer type pedals and Rat type pedals into the AC30 Amplug.

I think ultimately it's dependent upon tweaking volume and gain settings on both the Amplug and any Pedals in order to get the sounds you want without excessive clipping, buzzing, or noise -- you can't just crank everything and get a good sound.

As an apartment dweller and for the price, I'm happy with it. If you are super tone finicky you may be disappointed, but I like it. I'd still like to try a Carl Martin Rock Bug at some point to see how that works...

Thanks Philly Fuzz!

I would be running the Amplug set for a clean tone. I would use it with a boost pedal for one setup where I just play clean and then with my whole pedalboard for a more rockin setup. So fuzzes don't get along with it at all? What does it sound like with a fuzz?

The ones I tried just ended up sounding like a transistor radio into the amplug. You might have better luck with fuzzes -- maybe your London fuzz will work better with it??

I've run fuzzes into it with OK results, the better your headphones are the better it will sound.

Well I picked one up as I was right next to the local Guitar Center yesterday. Then proceeded to figure out the noise issues, when using pedals with my Pocket Pod, was caused by which power adapter I used and whether I daisy chained the pedal with the Pocket Pod. Once I powered them separately, there's barley any noise. Much better.

That said, I will probably be returning the Amplug. It sounded fine when I only so briefly tried it, but I really like reverb and the many other options/effects/models/etc the Pocket Pod provides. It does seem like a good, inexpesive, quick headphone solution, but it also doesn't have alot of clean headroom which I tend to like.
