Blues Gospel
Please recomend me some (here in Europe there's no gospel tradition, and so information is none).
After watching this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umcNe...e=channel_page I was hungry for more of this style of music nd playing. |

Careful...using the word "Gospel" around here may cause a few hardliners to freak out...

Listen to Ray Charles. While he's not exactly blues, he is a great example of music with strong gospel roots.
Also, for guitar, check out Rick Holmstrom playing with Mavis Staples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3x6Vu4mCE0 "Hope at the Hideout" is a live CD of this band.

From my uneducated POV, that clip is sort of a mixing of Curtis Mayfield and BB, to my ears.

The Staple Singers might take you there.

Better yet, check out Roebuck 'Pops' Staples playing along with his daughter Mavis.
....and invest in some Curtis Mayfield. |

You should be able to get ahold of some of the Blind Boys of Alabama (some great stuff recently with Ben Harper): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mZ3rMOjNVw
Dixie Hummingbirds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1x6DH6hdDw Mississippi Fred McDowell wrote and performed gospel tunes, most famously You Gotta Move, which the Stones made popular. Reverend Dan Smith did only gospel blues, although you'd have to get it from Ebay (Time and Strike recordings), plus more modern practitioners such as Mansfield and Turner (Trimmed and Burnin'). Blues and gospel are closely related. Check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2PdsnJCuko |
