Are black Custom 22's rare?

I own a very nice 97 black Custom 22. It dawned on me that I have never seen another CU22 in black (top and back with scraped maple binding). It's really beautifull and i am surprised I don't see more in this color. Are black Customs a rarity?

I haven't seen many. I know they did a ton of Blue, Green and Yellow ones back around 96-98 (The time frame I was in to them).

Post a pic if you get a chance.

I had a '97 black McCarty....opaque black top with the natural binding.....that guitar still haunts me out of all the PRS I had come and go.

It might be "rare" but in case you are going here, I would say that it doesn't add anything to the value of the guitar to a average person.

I do love the simplicity of a black guitar with the scraped maple binding, but I also love my Amber CU24

I had a metallic red Custom 24. Got a great deal on it used at GC, I asked if it was a Standard (since it was opaque, the salesman said "Yea, it should be priced lower, take another $300 off..") When I got it in my hands I could see the 'faux binding' maple strip around the top... oh my... Metallic Red Custom 24 with birds for $1300 otd! I still have bruises on my keister where I kick myself for selling it...

Anyway, I would say a black Cu22 is rare-ish, I have seen a few, but not too many.

I agree....don't expect it to add value from a "rare" standpoint. I would imagine some PRS buyers would actually steer away from opaque tops and want more figure. Some guys may care, some won't......but it ain't really something remarkable.

I agree. While Black PRSs in general are pretty rare, they tend to be valued LESS than even more common non-10 burst tops. When people want PRS, they want flame!
