Hi Mertzy, I remember you posting in another forum back last October about the Hagstrom Viking, and the banjos, and the hint that there was something else...

That's a really cool, and beautiful old guitar.

If it were me though, I wouldn't take any of it apart, just give it the really good clean it needs and tune it up and play it for the time you've got it!

I wish I had neighbours like that!

I wasn't going to unsolder anything just pop out a pickup to see the neck tenon but even that has me scared, I've been reluctant to remove the strings or do anything with this guitar.

The Serial number is 8 33XX, I won't post the whole number or pics of it either b/c it's not my guitar and although I don't really care others may.

The tuners are different than I've seen (I'm no Gibson expert) but have a "G" on them. they don't look like they've been changed. I read that Gibson went to Grover's in 59 on the Customs but I don't know what they had prior to 59. They have a really fat post that is not tapered or shaped. I'll get a pic posted of them.

I may make a run at acquiring this guitar but I struggled to put together $4K to get my 64 Strat so this is WAAAAAY out of my league. But like I said I don't think the owners are interested in the cash and they are probably not interested in getting rid of it either, at least I get to play it for a while!

I am thinking this is the correct sensibility.

I didn't have much time with it since my wife was giving me a hard time as soon as I walked in the door with it, and yes I was in shock.

If I were you I would not even breathe on that guitar.... leave it as is.

Tell them to get it appraised immediately in the condition its in.

seriously, if you wife knows how much you love guitars and you have the once in a 100 lifetimes opportunity to get that Paul; do it.

I changed the strings (kept the old ones) and gave it a light cleaning with Martin Guitar Polish which is basically expensive Lehigh Valley drinking water. It could use a lot more cleaning but not by me. I could really use that Mullard too but only if they say I can take it.

This one is of the owner and his band, The Bud Dehoog band. Most of the pictures were taken at by a photographer out of Paterson so I assume these were Jersey boys. You can see this LP in the top right photo, I also have that banjo in the large photo.

This next one is the Case Candy.

You can see the mahogany poking through between the binding and nitro due to wear.

Heres the back of the headstock and tuners, I blocked out some of the serial number.

Neck tenon.

And what everyone has been waiting for.
