Les Paul Custom for Jazz?

Is anyone else here using a Les Paul Custom (or any other Les Paul) for Jazz?

I'm not primarily a Jazz player and don't have a traditional full sized jazzbox so I mostly use my 335 when the situation calls for it, but I use my Les Paul Custom 400 as a backup as needed (not mine pictured, but it's exactly the same).

Does anyone else use a LP for Jazz and if so, how's it working for you?

Pics?

Put the neck pickup on, roll the tone control back to 3 or 4 and you're there. My Les Paul Elegant is semi-hollow so I get a great jazz tone on it but any Lester should work fine.

Very fine player out of Texas. These days plays a Parker but lots of videos with an LP.
Great tone and playing

Nothing wrong with an LP for jazz. I've even seen people play a Strat for straight ahead jazz, and it worked. If you're using it as a backup for the 335, that's fine -- go for it!

I use a '74 with added Bigsby for jazz type work. Oh yeah, and I sit down.

No reason not to use a Les Paul for jazz!

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=7897111

That's this guitar, which is a '52 that was converted to a '59 (including a retop as the original top had been shaved down to accomodate the original hack-job conversion) and has all vintage parts and electronics.

And, btw, the guitar's tone control is on 10. (dial in the "jazz tone" at the amp, leave the guitar tone more open, and don't be afraid of a little high end)

Don't see why not. Works for the guy who's name is on the headstock.

Here's mine since were playing show and tell.

Exactly, Les is a jazz player himself.

LP Customs are versatile guitars.

Very nice playing and I'm digging the tone as well....it fits nicely between the "blanket over the amp" traditional sound and the too bright for my ears smooth jazz tone.

Thanks for the suggestion to leave the tone knob on 10; I'll give it a try.

Keep the clips and pics coming...

Jazz tone on an LP Custom? Sure!
'76 Custom.... both pickups on, (neck set quite a bit louder than bridge pickup) both tone knobs at 3, into my '68 Princeton Reverb, with a Boss EQ to boost the bass....

Nice jazz tone! (but I have NO chops!)

Good old Lester Polfus.....we all owe him lot!

Thanks for that.

The audio on this one by Walter Rodrigues (came up as a related link) is a little better and I really like the tone he's getting.

These tone knob settings are interesting and I plan to check them all out.

I've just been using the neck pickup with the tone on 4-7.

Thanks.

Lemmings - You're all going to fall off the cliff by the second chorus of your solo on Giant Steps played on a Les Paul. Even Les Paul himself never made it to the music of the 1960s - and he can't even bend his fingers any more. That's what will happen to you if you insist on playing jazz-type music on a Les Paul. If god wanted jazz played on a Les Paul, he wouldn't have named the band Led Zepplin.

Real jazz can only be played on an older L5, 175 or extravagantly priced vintage archtop. Everything else is fake jazz.
