GC Impulse Buy Egnater content

I never do this, ever. However, today I went in to GC to buy some cables and walked out with an Egnater Rebel 20. I tried out the Vox Nighttrain, dug that, and then saw the Egnater. Tried it and I had to have it! If you haven't checked out this or the Nighttrain, they are both killer amps. I found that the Egnater could get close enough to the Voxy tones of the Nighttrain for my tastes, so versatility won out.

Oh, and the sales guys were actually pretty friendly. Didn't know jack about the amps (I think they were metal dudes), but they looked for literature and let me move stuff around to AB both amps at high volumes for about an hour. The manager eventually came in and talked to me about the various features and then left me alone to blast away.

I did the same thing last year.
Plugged into one at GC and walked out with it.
It's a rockin' mofo for sure.
I took it back a couple of weeks later as I really didn't need it.

BTW,I grew up in El Paso.
I used to work at Danny's Music Box when it was on Montana Ave back in the mid/late 80's.At that time it was "the" pro shop of the south west.
I haven't been back since '91 when I left to go play in Europe.
I'm in central Tejas now.
I miss Chico' Tacos.I could go for a double order right now.

Cool stuff!

I almost tried one at Dave's Guitar in La Crosse but that wasn't what I was there for so I had to leave it at that! (I lack impulse control.)

Funny - I moved here in 91. Danny's got hit hard by GC, they moved twice and are now gone. Through the 90's they were the only game in town and I think they burned bridges with local musicians with bad customer service because they could get away with it. Chicos is, of course, still around!

Yeah,I heard Danny's went down hill after GC came to town.
Too bad. When I worked there,'84-'90,it was a great shop and we were cool to everyone. It was like a home away from home kinda place. All the local musicians would go there to get what they needed.Everybody knew everybody. It was a great place and time.I miss it

Oh,in keeping with the thread here is some Rebel porn.
Mine dug a NOS Mullard AX7 in v1 and a 70's Tesla AX7 in V2.

Did Jerry (guitarist who played in a band called Cuervo, and earlier City Lights) work there while you were there? Great guy - he was about the only guy there who would take care of me when I needed something.

Yeah,Jerry was there when I was.He was a good bud.He had a killer blueburst Dean Cadillac that was originally made for Kerry Livegrin of Kansas but,he didn't take it so,Jerry did.I bought a early 80's Marshall 412 cab from him for $270.He always bugged me to sell him his cabinet back.lol
I never did.
If you run into him tell him I said hi.George Willis was there too.He went on to make millions I heard producing Latino music. He was the bass player in Cuervo back then.
I know Jim H.,head of the Drum dept, was still with them the last time I called Danny's.About 5 years ago or so.

Jerry is now at the East side Benny's pawn shop. Haven't seen him in a while, but I heard he's thinking of getting Cuervo going again. Never met George Willis, Jon Paul Cardenas was the bass player they had when I moved here (what a badass he was!). Jim Hargrave was there forever, I think he got sick. Really great guy, but I never needed his help since I don't play drums! There's still a ton of talent in El Paso - don't know who you remember, but maybe some of these guys: Bill Radcliffe, Charlie Gorman, John Ross, Adrian Esparza, Martin Bencomo, Russ Kalman?

Bill and Charlie ring a bell but,I'm quite hazy.
I've never been goo with names.

Then Duane Rando,David White,Hank Bebe,Danny Cross,John Moran.
I know one of my old students still live in EP.His name is Omar Mena.
He's in production the last I heard.
I'm gonna PM my number to ya.
It would bee cool to talk some time.

Got the PM. Yeah I know Brian and Danny. Jammed with Brian a couple times and did some fretwork for him. We discussed starting a band, but then he moved. Monster player and great singer. Never heard Danny play, just spent some time drinking beer with him and Tommy Mora. He had cut off his hair and was working a "real" job! Funny dude.

Charlie and Bill both played in QID, they're still alive to talk about! Great guys, and both fantastic guitarists. Be cool to talk sometime, take care.

If I haven't had so many house and car breakdowns lately I'd own that already Grrr. getting a tree removed would have covered the cost of the amp. Hopefully next year.

Believe me, I understand that feeling. If it weren't for dental issues, dogs and vets, fixing cars, rebuilding my swamp cooler, etc, etc. I'd be able to buy that PRS DGT I've been lusting after! The amp does help ease the pain, however...
