Scumback Questions.....
Any tonal differences between the 65 watt versions of the M75 and M55 and their lower wattage counterparts??? I figured they might be harder to break in like many higher wattage variants, maybe not...I am intending to pair this set in a 4x12 closed back straight back Germino cab with a Germino headroom 100 supplying the juice.
Jim???

A bit cleaner, less cone break up of course, but that's about it.
And it's subtle IMO.

The 65w models have a tiny bit more bass & a tiny bit less treble then the 25w models. But the differences are small tone wise, and easily dialed in via EQ changes that are also really small (like 1-1.5 numbers on the dials).
The 65w models stay cleaner a tiny bit longer as well, but if you're going with M's the difference is pretty small as well. The clip "Homage" that Pete Thorn did with a few 30-50w amps and various guitars through a 65w M75 are a pretty good showcase for what the M75 65w model can do with different settings & guitar tones. Here's the clip: http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/m75clips/homage.mp3 Gear used for recording this clip: 64 strat, and 2 Suhr Teles (one with humbuckers, one with singles) Badger 18, Badger 30, PT100, Top Hat Emplexador, and a Komet Concorde Scumback M75 65 watt speaker (closed back Bogner cube cab) With a Germino amp and a 4x12 with an M55/M75 65w mix you should be pretty well set for a lot of different tones.

I had the same concerns about going high power with a greenback ... so I went with the H75 in 65 watts, which I figured was brighter and more dynamic by nature due to the larger magnet in a G12H30 (what it copies) over a greenback. I took a chance and went with the large dust cap as well. Best speaker I ever had ... similar frequency range as a greenback RI, but more explosive, better dynamics, thicker crunch and better overall vibe. It's in a cab with a greenback RI, sounds great ... perhaps I'll get a scumback greenback someday for a mate.

I have a 55hz 65w...it is simply wonderful. They do like volume, and do need to be broken in...but mine has loosened up considerably and has changed how I hear speakers. I now hear things I didn't before, and the harmonic detail in the midrange is amazing.

I've got a pair of the 65w M75's coming in soon (right Jim?) that I'll be loading into a Bogner OS 2x12. I love the vintage tones of the greenbacks, but need the extra w's to run 100w heads. Everything I've heard so far has me stoked to get these speakers loaded in!
