Languedoc questions

For any Languedoc owners (or Languedoc-knowledgeable people), how are the knobs and switches set up on the 'doc?
- Which pot is volume, and which is tone?
- For the series/parallel and coil split mini-switches, what does each switch do? For example what are the options you get for each switch? Are they wired to one pickup or both?

Please help me out. I have a great Languedoc clone guitar and I'm having the electronics put in this week. I'm trying my best to make it as close as possible to the true 'doc.

Thanks a lot!

They all have a volume and tone knob along with the 3 position pickup selector and mini switches that bring the guitar in an out of series/parallel.

I have a similar custom with coil taps in lieu of the parallel switches. I also have a phase switch. I find that these choices allow for many more "colors" than what is on Trey's guitar. From what I've read, the parallel gives you more of a "big" tone... which sounds amazing at first but FWIW... most humbuckers are pretty "big" sounding already... anyway, PM if you have any questions. I did some serious research before doing my custom as well as the builder Frankie Montuoro - was Wilco's tech and builds mostly Larson style pre-war acoustics now.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that one of the mini switches was for coil tapping, and the other was for series/parallel... except I'm not sure how they'd be wired.

The guy who's putting mine together suggested making the mini switches 3-way selectors, where one switch would be wired to the neck pickup, and the other to the bridge pickup. They would be On-On-On, and the options would be coil tap, humbucker, and series. So for example, if I want both pickups tapped, I'd switch both mini switches (with the 3 way pickup selector in the middle.) Is this not how the 'doc is wired?

Also, dumb question, but which knob is Trey's volume and which is Trey's tone... I'm trying to figure out what he is always messing with when he plays.

The pot near the bridge pickup is volume and the other is tone. There is a traditional 3-way toggle (bridge, bridge/neck, neck). The first mini toggle is a coil tap. I believe it turns on the outside coils of each humbucker (the coils closest to the bridge and neck). The other mini toggle is a series/parallel. When switched to series it turns both humbuckers into one big pickup. One of my favorite settings on the doc is coils tapped in series. Hopefully this helps.

Perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to you all for the info.

Email Languedoc. He might be able to help you out more than anyone else.

Actually, you might have better luck getting that info from other builders or Doc clone builders. Looking at Paul L's FAQ section (last Q&A), leads me to this thinking.

Anyone with a Languedoc, is it nice and quiet or do you still get some amount of hum when plugged in? I built a hollowbody and I just can't get it to stop humming. It does stop when i touch a knob or something metal, but I've been reading that this is do to emi, and not a grounding problem.

Is this right? I must have re-wired it a million times with no luck. Any help is appreciated.
