Any pedals similar to Timmy?
From what I've read, the Timmy is a transparent, touch-sensitive OD that works best at lower gain and stacks well. Seems nice, but unfortunately obtaining one would be fairly unpractical for me, mainly because of the wait.
So that being said, are there any pedals out there that will do something similar? AC Booster, Fatboost 3 - will these act similarly in any way to the legendary Timmy? Any help is much appreciated. |

I have heard that the Barber LTD is similar and in some cases better for tweaking.

Right off the bat, the Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive.
The AC, is based loosely on the Tubescreamer and I hear little bit of the SD-1 in its tonal qualities as well. It's open, but it certainly isn't as transparent as the Timmy. Good OD, just a different animal. (currently expecting one in the mail to try out even more) The Fatboost 3 (currently own) is probably one of the nicest boosters I have owned, however, it can get tweedy at best. I don't think it is meant to be treated as a dirt box, but there is a little tinge in there. I have a new one up for sale (check the siggy)...but if you trying to find Timmy, it certainly won't be there (except in maybe some of the boost settings).

Bleh, Danelectro. It's their own fault that I hate them though... damn Sitar Swami.
The Barber LTD looks good, I don't like how Barber pedals are all so large though. |

Lol sitar swami! what were they thinking? Anyway... the dano CTO is a surprisingly good sounding pedal and I would say it sounds Timmy-ish. But for $40 its worth a listen. great deal

It is a blatant, unapologetic, low-down dirty rip-off of the Timmy of course it sounds Timmy-ish...

I can get any sound I want out of an AC booster. Some good deals in the emporium right now--- but not mine.

The big question is WHY? Timmys are available for a great price with a small wait.

But, I love Barber's pedals (own 4) and have thought the same thing for a long time about the size. A rehouse is definitely doable into the single, deeper encloser (like the Wampler boxes). Unless you have a mod board or any extra's in there. Dave....please, please consider giving us back some pedalboard space. A smaller enclosure would probably bring a nice little bump in sales, no? I don't think the PCB would need to be re-layed out...just the packaging. But then, I'de have to sell all mine and re-purchase or...send them all in to be rehoused. |

I love the enclosures like the Tone Press and Dirty Bomb have. They're the right size to give my foot room to step on them without the risk of stepping on something else unintentionally, and they don't crowd the controls. YMMV of course but I vote keep the box the same

Barber LTD -- I own two of the regular versions and one Silver. Got 'em all for less than $125 each... great deal for a great pedal.
FWIW - I own a Klon Centaur (orig Centaur logo) and use the Barber for all (3) of my pedalboards. I love my Klon but it is not appreciably different and since its worth so much, I leave it at home
