Normal channel on DRRI?
I've been using a DRRI for the last 4 years and I've been gradually finding myself using the Normal channel more and more especially with a Tele. Is there anyone else out there that is a fan of "Norm" and prefers it over the Vibrato channel?

No, I haven't had that problem. Sounds like you need to have it looked at. I would imagine it's nothing too big..

I recently did a mod to a friend's DRRI to add reverb to the Normal channel. It's far and away better sounding now vs the Vib channel, IMO. Tele, Strat, P90 Les Paul, all sound fantastic through it.

I am doing the same, jz. Not for any particular reason, but I find that dry, with a touch of delay is better to my ears than with the reverb. I do switch back to the trem channel for some songs (surf, trem-necessary tunes), but spend most of the night on the normal channel. I think OD pedals sound better there... not a huge difference, but it retains a bit of clarity.
I also prefer NOT to have 'verb during leads. Ideally, I would run an A/B switch, and have the verb for rhythm duties, and switch to the norm for leads, but that just seems like alot of trouble.

I went through a long period with a dripedge Bassman as my main amp. I got used to no reverb, and now if I use any, it's just a touch, but most shows, I just play dry. I gather the sound guy uses his judgement with regard to reverb, but unless you're outside, these bigger venues are boomy enough. Small Jazz clubs, depends if a pianist is involved. Usually I'm with a piano player, so no reverb ... normal channel.

I did this mod on my DRRI. It was super easy and really effective with no added noise. I almost never use the Vib channel now. Eliminates the need for the bright cap clip. Just sold my DRRI though. Never mind. Here's the mod:

Super easy to do, too. Took maybe 20 minutes from start to finish.

So can you explain the difference you heard after the mod. I've been thinking of doing this mod. I don't know if I understand it completely, but I guess once you get started it's easy.

I don't own a DRRI, but have tried one several times. I definately liked the sounds of the normal channel moreso than the vibrato channel. The normal channel was warmer and fuller sounding. I ended up buying a PRRI and like it's tone the best.

The Normal channel has a different coupling cap value (.047 versus .02) heading toward the phase inverter. That contributes some to the different tonality of that channel. It's a little richer sounding. I also did the "reverb/vib on both channels" mod (very simple) and really like it. I tend to use the Normal channel for single coil guitars and the Vibrato channel for humbuckers. |

Thats a great Idea...my pedal board sounds great on the vibrato channel until I kick on dirt...
