Here's a graphic from "http://Fibsons.com" that compares headstocks head-on:

the comparison angle is a bit sloppy, but it's quite possible to see the difference..
(also the same shoddy looking tuner buttons)

I knew that deal on the emporium was too good to be true...call Gibson with the serial # and you'll know for sure. Once you confirm it's fake, can you get your money back?

Useful post. As the better fakes get into the economy, it's worth learning how to tell the difference.

The binding really sands out to me as the big difference.

Maybe it's just me and my language difficulties, but the second sentence doesn't make much sense to me..

Gibson doesn't build guitars with frets over the binding. If people aren't smart enought to know that maybe they deserve to be ripped off. I mean jeez, these things have been out here for years. What part of " If it sounds too good to be true it probably is " are they not getting.

Groovey Records:

The one things I notice from this thread (and I've seen dozens of these over the past few years) is that the fakes are getting better. It used to be that you could see from the across the room that the fretboard material wasn't right, the headstock shape was wrong, the trussrod cover had three screws instead of two, the 'Gibson' name on the headstock was wrong and the "font" of the serial number wasn't right. With this guitar, at least, I'm down to just a couple of telltale warning signs. I always tell friends that are looking that they need to be very familiar with Gibson's products and their characteristics before taking the plunge. All that being said, I have a young friend and his father who have recently been involved in not one, but three deals with fakes!

You would have a hard time replacing a volume pot. There is no control cavity.
