Does anyone prefer a 7.25" radius?
Seems like when radius measurements are discussed the favorites invariably fall in the 9.5-12" range. Interesting in that many of the classic guitars were built w/ a 7.5" radius.
I got a Melancon strat in a trade. Thought it had a 9.5" per the post but it actually had a 7.25". I really like the guitar and bends work fine. Thoughts?

i like the vintage radius better and always have. its always more intimidating and harder to play for me but that curved feel in my hand just feels so right.

Do you mean 7.25"? Yeah I like it.. especially for chording and playing on lower notes.. I do prefer 9.5" on my strats though :-)

Only old guys born in the 50s or earlier prefer 7.25"

I have no real preference, but the vintage radius sure works fine on my AV62RI Strat. Very comfortable neck to play.
I own a bunch of guitars with neck widths varying from 1 11/16" to 1 3/4" to 1 7/8". Radii are different on most of them, too. All of them work great-- you just adjust your technique to the guitar you're playing.

I'm pretty comfortable on just about any radius under 12", but my favorite is 7.25. Don't really know why, but it just feels best in my hand.

I don't really mind playing a 7.25 but it isn't my preference.

The radius thing is one of the reasons I play Gibsons and not Fenders.

I like it a lot! But, I think the whole radius thing is way overplayed. I have a 7.25, 9.5, 10 & 16 and they are all easy to play and switch between.
Now scale length that is another story.

I, a geezer born in 1963, love the 7.25 radius on my AVRI 62 stratocaster. After I got the guitar last summer, my telecaster neck (~9.5) quickly came to feel awkward to me.
I'm not much for bending strings these days, but I play a lot of single note runs. |

Of all the things I really care about in a guitar, radius is not one of them. I'm happy with my 7.25" strat, my 9.5" tele, and my 12" Les Paul. It's all good.
