SRV and Albert King

This looks like something that would be of interest to many here:

I've got it. It's interesting to hear their banter and the playing is pretty good. What's most interesting is: A) how heavily King influenced SRV - it's so clear when they play together; B) how in awe of King SRV is. You can tell by listening how gobstopped SRV is.

I enjoyed it.

I have it as well and it was quite a learning experience which led me to the conclusion...close in places but no cigar...

AK puts a smile on my face and every note in the right place...

doesn't AK have a terrible phaser on everything he plays on this one?
I always thought he did it because he knew how much SRV had been influenced by him

MXR Phase 90 I believe. Johnny Winter used one alot in the 70's as well.

I don't think phaser had anything to do with SRV. I've heard it on other AK performances.

I asked Albert's guitar player Carl Weathersby once about the phaser thing. He told me that Albert never plugged into any effects unit. That is was something with the Roland amp that he used. His tech did something and it gave it that sound, Albert liked it and had a couple other amps done that way. He didnt know what he did, but we was 100% confident that Albert never used a phaser or any other pedal.

That's interesting information, thanks! I had always wondered about that since I could never understand why Albert would all of a sudden start using a pedal, especially a phaser.

I'm pretty sure the phaser thang was built into the Acoustic amps he used, from the factory....along with terrible "distortion"
