Best Modded SD-1
Since there have been some recent posts mentioning this pedal. I was wondering if there is a consensus amongst members on what the best modded one is. Yeah I know a consensus on TGP...never! I recently dug out some old video where I was using a Zakk Wylde OD through the clean channel of my Marshall and was shocked at how good my tone was and how well my leads cut through. I know this pedal is supposed to be a beefed up version of the SD-1. But I figured before I go buy another one I'd tap into the knowledge and experiences of the members here to see if there is something that can do what the ZW-44 does but even better. Thanks!

Most of the mods you'll find for the SD-1 just swap out a few components to make it tubescreamer-esque. In addition, the Zakk Wylde OD is modded off the SD-1 if I can remember correctly, but most likely with better quality components and a few improvements here and there. If you want a zakk wylde OD, there's one for sale over a Seymour Duncan user group forums for cheaper than the price of a mod from one of the big name guys (keeley, Analogman, etc.)
But hopefully someone else can chime in, I'm not aware of any mods that move the SD-1 in the direction of the Zakk Wylde OD. |

The problem with most SD-1 mods is that they change the freakin pedal into a TS!

Yeah I'm kinda kicking myself for selling the ZW-44 but if you hang around here long enough you definitely get caught up in the everything has to be boutique craze, so I'll probably get another since apparently there are no modded ones that compare. I'm definitely not looking for another TS. Been there , Done that.

Brian Wampler and Monte Alllums have mods that don't necessarily turn the SD-1 into a TS. If you take a close look at the schematic, you can pinpoint just a few improvements that can make the pedal have more and better defined bass, less shrill highs, more midrange, more gain, ect.
I don't know how similar the ZW44 is to the Boss pedal but I bet you can get in the ballpark by modding a few capacitors, resistors and diodes, without making it too TS-esque.

Thanks guys, I'll probably just pick up a used ZW44 on the cheap and paint it black because I really don't want to endorse or be affiliated with the whole Zakk Wylde Berzerker thing.

The monte allums gt mod is the way to go for the sd1. It's nothing like a ts.

I remember hearing about an SD-1 mod that gave it the same voice as the normal channel of an FD2. Anyone have any info on an FD2 mod for the SD-1?

Brian Wampler has a mod that purportedly does that. Check out his book, great reading and dozens of simple mods for many pedals.

I just came across this company called Peptone that has an intriguing mod for the SD-1. Never have heard of them before, anybody here tried these out?

I had a Analogman mod'ed SD-1 and I preferred the original more.
