800 Marshall with a 212?
Just curious if anybody is happily running an 800 Marshall with a 212 closed or open backed cab? My amp is an 800 circuit and I want to downsize to a 212 for the sake of portability and convenience, but not at the expense of tight sound. So for those doing this, what are your experiences with a closed or open backed cab with an 800?
I'm planning on getting a 212 cab custom made that allows both open and closed back operation to get the best of both worlds. The next question is, did you stay with G12T-75's or go with something else? I love my 75's in the quad - they are an incredible rock speaker when settled in - but not sure if I should try something else for a 212 set up with the 800 sound I like. I am interested in the Jensen MOD 12-75's as an alternative ... Experiences, opinions and idea's welcome. Tiki.

Well, I have a Voodoo modded 2205, which is higher gain in the lead channel than the 2203/2204, but love my 2x12. Mojotone OS sealed bluesbreaker style, scumback M75 XHP and H75 LHDC HP. Nothing short of awesome, could call it refined crunch. The list of speakers I've tried is too long to list, but will say I never owned the T75s.

I run my 2203 through a Port City 2x12 with warehouse Lead80 replicas. Sounds freaking huge.

for my style of music, through a good 2x12 you'd hardly know the difference.

I don't have a JCM800, but I do run my Silver jubilee through a marshall 1936 212 copy. I ran Celestion CL80's in there for years and now have Warehouse ET-65's. I prefer the ET-65's, but both sound good

To my ears, nothing sounds like a Marshall through a 4x12 cabinet. A 4x12 may not be practical in all applications so you may need to go to a 2x12 for portability or other issues. That being said, a Marshall through a closed back 4x12 cab cannot be beat. I like G12T-75's but I get a tighter sound I find through V30's.

The 1936 2 X 12 cab with 75's sounds great, in my experience. Matches very well with an 800.

IMHO. OS sealed 2x12 extend the lows and highs and expand the mids, 4x12s have more focus with their smaller internal volume ... and of course, have more raw horsepower just by moving more air. I did a lot of comparisons and ended up selling my Marshall 4x12. OS 2x12 = bigger, 4x12 = thicker.

You can always get a pair of 2x12s if you want, so either way this should work. Avatar makes some good cabinets and the one I have is not too heavy.
G12Ts mix well with Greenback types or Vin-30s. For your sound, I'd keep one of the G12Ts going since they match very well with JCM800s. The WGS Vet-30 would go well with one of your G12Ts and they are decently priced. |

I also used a Marshall 1936 cab, and put Vintage 30's in it.

2 2x12's won't sound the same as a single 4x12 because you won't get the phase cancellations of the 4x12.

I used to have a 800 2x12 combo. Great amp, which I regret selling.
Go for it. You can always buy a used 4x12 later if you're so inclined. |

And 2-2x12s can go places the 4x12 can't (like in a trunk).
