Paypal Fees Tip for BUYERS

This apply's mainly to the Emporium but thought I'd post here.

Buyers: When you go to your Paypal account to "Send Money", there are 2 tabs below the amount box; "Purchase" and "Personal". If you use Personal and pay from your bank account or Paypal balance, there are no fees taken out of the seller's proceeds. After all, we are all friends here right?

To quote Paypal:

Yes, by sending via the Personal Tab as 'Gift' there are zero fees and you can save tons on fees. But this loophole should only be used with people you trust as it also bypasses Buyer Protection.

This is true, but I don't think you really have buyer protection via an Emporium transaction regardless of how you transfer the $$.

I would be shocked to hear that Paypal actually stepped in to help out on a transaction of this nature.

Just my .02

You can also use an e-check, but that does take a while to go through. No fees that I am aware of with the e-check option....

Paypal may say they have some buyer or seller protection, but the consistent response is that under no circumstances can you actually get them to provide it based on any evidence, period. This is why they are hated. Their fees wouldn't be so bad if they actually provided the service they claim to provide.

Amen. I bought something from a dude, it came in a box taken apart and non functional. Complained to ebay, and paypal. The guy said he sent a fully functional working unit, even though I sent photos and whatnots. He told them that I tried to get him to give me a partial refund and that I said I'd lie and get my money back if he didn't. Paypal closed my dispute without paying me back. So I filed a claim with Capitol One, had my money back in just a couple of days. Good thing I paid with my credit card.
