OT: Anyone try the Dunlop Strings?

I am getting a trial pack next week. I guess they are made in a brand new facility specially built for these Dunlop Strings. The designer of the string and head of manufacturing is a guy that came from DR. I can't wait to try them. I am really in need of a new string, I am not loving my EBs as much anymore. I will report back what I think of them. Anyone play them yet?

I love the Dunlop strings-warm yet clear, almost "bell" like if you ask me. Been using them for a year. Got a few packs from my buddy who works at GC and was pleasantly surprised.

I used to use the DR tite-fits but it seemed as though a few years ago something changed and they aren't the same anymore. Who knows, maybe it's just me and I'm crazy.

I've used them a few times, great strings IMO.

My experience with them was less then prime. I bought three sets about a year ago and while I'm usually not picky about strings, I couldn't wait to get 'em off my guitar.

I used 3 sets of .10s on the same Strat... they all sounded "dead" out of the box... very mellow, but I'd call 'em "lifeless" like two week old Slinkys.

And I had problems with breakage & tuning, popped strings that were days old for the first time in ages. Each time I'd replace the whole set, thinking the set I just put on was bad... maybe all three sets were all bad. I don't know... but overall my experience sucked.

By far my first choice of strings for my strats. Nice bright bell-like tones and extremely long lasting - at least much longer than d'addarios. I haven't had issues of string breakage since I've swapped over to Dunlop strings. I'm thinking about giving their heavy bottom strings a try too but for the most part, their .10s are amazing!

Just tried a set on my #1 Strat and man the low strings sounded dead right out of the gate, I mean like rubber bands! Along with that, I just could not get the G and B to stay in tune. Came back to it the next day and still couldn't get on with them so I took 'em off and went back to the D'Addario's.

No big loss since I got them for free.

I think they sound great. The strings are really crisp and sharp, great for a real aggressive sound. I like they're acoustic strings too.

I tried these out last week, I love them. Tighter sounding then the EBs I used and have a great feel to them.

Thread revival, people!

I'm curious about Dunlops as well...I love their bass strings but have not tried their guitar strings yet. I tend to stick to string companies who actually manufacture their own strings, so I need to try these. I normally use EB's, but tried GHS Boomers and found them too mellow...how do Dunlops compare?

Hey! So I will start by saying I do have a relationship with Dunlop as a demo dude. Bryan, my long time buddy there loaned me an entry level Schechter Hollow Body with their strings on it and it sounded great. My understanding is that the strings are made on site in Benecia, CA, that they do not need to be stretched like other strings (perhaps why people had some "dead" issues), and that they have really long life. I was certainly quite happy with the way they sounded on the Schechter. I'm a GHS endorser, and was with D'Addario before that, so I've played enough strings to have a feel for what I like. What I thought was interesting was the slightly slinky feel of the strings - they definitely felt much different than the others, and they had a unique sound (nicely so I'll add) due to the construction. As I understand they spent a considerable amount of time and money invested in the R&D end. One of the things I really love about the Dunlop guys is that they take what they do really seriously - they're not in it to make a quick buck, which is one of the reasons they have footprint that they do. Cheers ~ Doug

I never tried Dunlop strings until a few days ago. I went into a music store with my son to get some accessories for his alto sax, and saw they had Dunlop strings on sale for $3.99 a set. I bought 3 10-46 electric sets and one 11-52 acoustic set.

Went home and put the electric set on one of my strats. I was very pleasantly surprised how good they felt as soon as I put them on. They are warm, yet bright and clear, but without the harsh metallic edge that some strings (such as D'Addario and Curt Mangan) have before they've broken in. Also, they felt nice and flexible right from the start, not stiff.

I might switch from GHS Boomers to Dunlops, and I've generally been pretty happy with the GHS strings.

Long time EB user, then D'Addario guy for years. Tried a set of Dunlop Heavy Cores on a whim. AWESOME! I use the 'heavy' gauge which is the lightest of the three. Basically, a 10 gauge set with slightly thicker core wire on the E A & D wound strings. They use sealed packaging, with a desicant packet inside to ensure no moisture. They sound bright and full, and last a really long time. I'm a fan.

It's definite - I'm now completely sold on Dunlop electric guitar strings. I just order two 6-packs and will be using them exclusively. I still like the GHS Boomers, but I like these better. Really great strings.

I like the length of Dunlop strings. They're the only string that reaches the high E tuning machine on my Maton Ibis.

As a rule, I don't really care what strings I use, but EB are the strings I use the most.
