i like it when someone tells me the guitar they're selling is not to be confused with

the lower, lesser quality model made by same company, looks the same, but IS MOST DECIDEDLY, NOT THE SAME!

You mean like how you shouldn't mistake a masterbuilt for a MIM?

Look the same.. built by the same company... but MOST DECIDEDLY NOT THE SAME.

Funny, I didn't like it when a GC a few states away assured me that the small and grainy single picture on their website was of a G&L ASAT made in the USA, and not a Tribute model...they really did not know the difference, as it was priced more than a new Tribute, but eventually something clicked in my mind and the color of the string tree gave it away as what it was, and I canceled the order for it the day it was to be shipped.

This is the BEST MIM Fender Strat evar! I actually went to the Fender factor and played Masterbuilt strats built by Eric Clapton's personal luthier and they sounded like cardboard compared to this off the rack MIM model.

Hey, I thought I was getting a Squier.

Look, mister! You stuck me with one of these lousy Fender models.

++

I played one of those incredible MIMs one time. I assumed it was the mushrooms in my dinner. By the time I got back over there to try it and buy it, someone recognized its value and it was gone.

Like an epiphone by gibson vs. an epiphone without gibson on the truss cover?

no. nothing like that. in fact, i don't think i've ever seen that in a masterbuilt ad.

i'm mostly thinking of guitars that were once built in america or japan(even korea in the case of sheratons), but are now being built in china.

so the USA in the title might lead one to believe it's Korean?

IMO I wouldn't want to deal with a buyer this, um, challenged, especially if there are accompanying pictures

I have seen a couple early custom shop quilt sellers be falsely attacked by ebay do-gooders accusing them of selling the imports as USA models....

The Hamer USA line vs their cheaper lines would be a good example of where this distinction would be appropriate.
