Fair Trade?
Is a 2005 wine-red Les Paul Deluxe RI a fair trade for a 2007 Firebird VII?
I figure the Paul is worth around $1500 and the Firebird around $1600. Both guitars are stock and in great condition. Thoughts? |

If you like I'd go for it.
I'd say it's fair especially if it's something you want and can live without the other which is really the main question I would think you would have to yourself. Trades are good especially nowadays. |

It doesn't seem like either one of you is getting screwed, so if you both want it, go for it. The only issue that pops in my mind is that regardless of value, if you ever want to get rid of the Firebird it will probably be a little harder than something that has as such wide appeal as an LP.

Its in the ballpark. As long as its in the ball park I don't spilt hairs and get what I want. If you have the have the chance to trade something you don't use for something you dig and not lose money or very little........go for it. Life is just too short .

Hey all... thanks for the feedback. I agree, if it's in the ballpark then what the hay. It's my would-be trade partner, who initiated the trade, that wants me (with the deluxe) to throw in upwards of $300.
He seems firm on an 1800 value, which seems steep. Not to mention that I agree with the "Les Pauls are easier to move than a Firebird". |

Seems like a square deal straight up. I love my Bird but there is no reason for the three beans though. In the "market" I would think the Lester would be "worth" more.
Much easier to get rid of by far and closer in price to a new one. No? Peace. J.J.B. |

Not if he wants your guitar plus $300.00.

I agree. Straight up seems right to me.

thanks all for the input. i can understand someone wanting to get the most money for their guitar, but to set some inflated (firm) price on their own while devaluing my deluxe seems unfair.

Yeah......I go $100 this way or that way all the time. But $300 is getting a bit steep. Unless its something you must have , insist on an even trade. I have a friend who went fishing this weekend and spent $500 in fuel easily. he had a great time though. Will $300 extra on a guitar make you happy? Only you can answer that.

Firebird is a tougher sell. I wouldn't even trade straight up.

oh, i didn't read this part. nope, wouldn't do the trade. you know what you can get for $1800? loooots. You could probably sell your Deluxe for more than $1500 on eBay and get whatever Firebird reissue you want, plus nice aftermarket firebird hums from lollar or duncan to go with 'em.

If you really want a Firebird sell the LP and talk to dougk here about a Firebird. The man builds the sweetest Birds you'll find.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've been watching Firebirds for awhile and there are plenty out there at more than fair prices.
Take some decent pics and post your LP here on TGP in the Emporium for sale or trade...you might just find what you're after! I've had plenty of success on here when I want something.
