EHX HOG, vs POG, vs POG2 ?
I have an Electro Harmonix HOG that I really love, but I was interested in trying other EHX gear to go along with it. The POG series caught my eye...
My question is how different is it from the HOG? I know there function is similar, but would they go well together? Really, what is the difference, or can the Hog do about everything that the Pog can? Also, wich is better... the Pog or the Pog2? There are definite advantages to the Pog2 (mainly presets and the filter), but can it do everything that the original Pog can do? The Original POG had "detuned sliders", will I miss this option with the POG2? How about the Input slider? Any advice on any of these effects would be greatly appreciated, Thanks! |

I think it depends on how much you will use the effect, and how many varied settings you'd like to recal. HOG is the one for many settings. I have the POG, which gives me a bit of shimmer to a lead tone in lieu of a complex fuzz. I set it & forget it, and use it when I need. That's my $1.05 (inflation).

Thanks for the response!
Have you done much looking into the Pog2? which would you prefer, 1 or 2? Can 2 do everything that 1 can do ?

Having owned both, the HOG can do absolutely everything the POG can. IIRC the HOG doesn't have the separate detunes that the POG1 has, but really you can't tell the difference. Especially if you have a nice chorus after. If you have the room and money, HOG with the preset controller and expression pedal is the ultimate in organ sound/octavers.

Thanks, that's good news! (I own the HOG)
![]() What does IIRC mean? And have you looked into the POG2 at all, if so would you reccomend it over the original? Thanks! Ohh... do you have any favorit setting for your HOG? Did you buy the controller that saves presets, and do you think that it is worth it?

i think you should buy the controller. if you're gonna have the beast you might as well tame it a bit.

Well, about Pog and Pog 2:
you don't miss the detune capabilities. In the Pog you have 2 separate sliders one for the 1 octave up and one for the 2 octaves up. In the Pog 2 one single detune slider applies to both 1 octave up and 2 octaves up. You have less fine tuning options but as an owner of the Pog i understand the choice of one slider for both. The benefits of having separate sliders are debatable and the final result doesn't add anything more in terms of sonic efficiency. The pog 2 offers a bit more options in the filter section (the 4 position q button of the Pog 2 replaces the 3 position switch in the Pog. The big deal is that the pog 2 has the attack control and the dry effect button that really put this pedal in another class respect its older brother. I've only one doubt since i don't have a Pog 2. The lack of the imput slider and the 9VDC against the 18vdc of the POG. The Pog has a really huge sound. The imput slider rather than increase a low signal as someone could expect works better to tame the beast. So My fear is that despite the fact the voltage could be pumped inside the pedal to obtain more headroom (usually more voltage results in more headroom) the resulting sound of the pog2 without the chance to pump a bit the signal prior to be effected could suffer of a volume drop down or a thinner sound. And when you want to make a nice hammond replica you need to have a lot of headroom. Some POG 2 owner could confirm. Is the POG 2 a huge or thin sounding pedal? (not necessarily compared to a POG) |

I've owned the HOG and POG they do not sound the same. the old phrase the HOG can do everything the pog can is very wrong. hell they aren't the same beast. the HOG has more octave sounds but the POG is more ballsy and bigger sounding. I think personally the POG is more musical of the two.

On the same setting, does the POG2 sound any different than the POG?

between my lead singer and me, we have the POG, MicroPOG, and POG2. on similar settings, they sound nearly identical. with the exception of the differing controls, of course. the organ sounds are amazing on the POG, alright on the MicroPOG, and the best on POG2. the attack control really helps get rid of some of the pick attack that makes it sound like a guitar. i didn't notice any lack of "hugeness" with any of the 3 pedals...they're all pretty amazing, IMO. the POG2 wins on size and presets. sweet pedal...
