Most important member in ORIGINAL Kiss line up ?
![]() Peter Criss , Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley or Gene Simmons ? Ill pitch in later, bear in mind that I dig the despised 1980 release Unmasked

Paul. He is the heart and soul of KISS.
I too like Unmasked. |

Would they have been anywhere without Gene constantly pushing?

I think the kids idolised and wanted to be Ace, I think he was the foundation in the original line up.
Your choice ?

KISS is all about marketing, therefore Gene is the most important member.
My favourite was Paul though. I think his vocals are the biggest factor in 'the KISS sound' and yes, i 'm fully aware that Paul doesn't sing all of the songs, but "Dr Love" "God of Thunder", and anything else Gene sings is horrible, and "Beth" was was kind of departure from the KISS sound

Paul & Gene were equally essential IMO, but if i had to pick one, it would be Paul.
Ace's solo album may have sold the most, but Paul's was the most consistent (aside from that horrific sappy ballad), and sounded the most like a Kiss album.

Man, that is a really tough question. If Ace were in charge of the band back in the day, would he have had the business sense of Gene and the song-writing caliber and frontman presence of Paul? Likely not. Ace is/was a total lush and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was not the "responsible" type. Therefore, I'd probably say Paul. He was/is the most prolific song writer of the bunch (note how most album title tracks are Paul songs- Hotter Than Hell, Love Gun, etc).
Ace is by far my favorite and always will be, but we define "most important member" in different ways. Ace has been replaced by many others in the lineup and KISS has still sold millions of records. |
