Saw Aimee Mann last night - terrific show

Played mostly old stuff, but sounded different than the recorded versions. She played acoustic guitar and bass, with 2 other guys who played mostly keyboards, but depending on tune, picked up guitars, bass, percussion.

2nd half was mostly requests. Great show.

Photo of the trio is on my blog.

Yeah I think so, though she still intro's that one tune as "the one that lost out to Phil Collins" ...

She is a great songwriter who puts on a great show. One of my all time favorite shows was one with Aimee Mann and Michael Penn with Patton Oswalt opening.

It was cool seeing Aimee and Michael playing on each other's material, and when Patton Oswalt joined in to recreate the "Voice's Carry" video performance, along with Chris Isaak (who till that point was sitting next to me in the audience) on bass the show achieved legendary status.

Longtime Aimee Mann fan here. Unfortunately, she no longer has the talented Julian Coryell on lead and slide guitar. While the current keyboard heavy band is excellent, her songs beg for the George Harrison like approach that Coryell brought to her songs in a live setting.

yeah, I've got to agree with this. I saw her in the Bershires here in MA, and she didn't indicate in the promo material that she wouldn't have a full band with her.

I saw her on that Michael Penn tour in NY, and she was phenomenal--at least in part because her band was so good.

To be honest, I felt a bit cheated this time around. She's a talented songwriter, to be sure, but her voice can get REALLY whiny without the right instrumentation. I have 5-year-old twins, and I get my share of whining in the course of a week--and then some...

I think her songwriting and voice hold their own. A lot of folks thought her band would fall apart after Michael Lockwood left around the lost in space cd time, but I think she's got enough material that even solo, or with a single bass or keyboardist, she can put on a great show.

I paid $15, and saw her in a brand new 400 seat place, in the 12th row, that wasn't even sold out. I think it was the concert bargain of the decade.

I have a recording of a show where someone requested that - she couldn't remember the words, started talking about the negative aspects of the relationship that precipitated the song, and asked the requester (jokingly) if he even liked her music at all.

I got the impression she'd really rather not play any of the 'til Tuesday material - which saddened me, because I was head over heels for her then, too. She could do a whole show of 'til Tuesday material and I'd be thrilled.

Was never a fan of that band she was with in the beginning but Aimee's solo shows are amazing. Great stuff.
