7025/12ax7 ID please

Someone handed me a few tubes today, a couple RCAs, a Westinghouse, and an unmarked tube that just has a small USA above the 7025 which is surrounded by a rounded off rectangle.

Any idea on that last tube? I don't care what it is if it sounds good, it's Sunday.. what else is there to do during football season on a Sunday?

Any help appreciated!

Are the spacers round or rectangular? A photo would help.

That is also very cool. I am going to swap the RCAs into V1 on amps I like best first.

The Westinghouse glass feels like it's heavy. It 'tinks' less. I bet that makes difference on a super gainy amp, huh?

Sounds like you're describing these. One of these came stock in my '76 Princeton Reverb. A high-quality version of the 12AX7; direct replacements.

Yep. It's the same tube, with the RCA missing. Doesn't appear to have ever been printed? Hmm..

All but the Westinghouse are very good, and it's a good tube, but just not as much push in the middle.

Thanks all. Fun day.

I just picked up an NOS 7025, they are great tubes. I also picked up an NOS 1960 RCA 12ax7a and I think I like it a bit better than the 7025 in my tweed deluxe, but they are close. Quite a bit darker than the EH 12ax7 I was using. Darker, but much more detailed and thicker tone. My notes just seem to have more girth with the NOS RCA tubes. A bit smokier, rolled off on the high end, but very sweet.

They are high output compared to the other loose tubes I have except for the Electro Harmonix versions.

Made Marshall a little boxy. Made my lil Egnater into a TWreck! It's INSANE. I think they must have been designed around the crappy tubes that came in it, which turn Marshalls into Fender gain territory. With the master wide open, I set the pre at least 2 and a half numbers lower for similar sound... but who wants a similar sound?
