shipping ev speakers in bubble wrap
I bought a pair of cast frame ev force speakers on ebay. The guy puts the two speakers together - face - to face - and tapes and bubble wraps them that way then sticks them in a box with bubble wrap on the sides.

Probably the same guy who shipped me a Hiwatt head with one small strip of small bubble wrap on the bottom and crumpled old junk mail and an old sears catalog on the top.
![]() ebay, right?

yes, ebay. His excuse - He's not a packing store and I couldn't have gotten chinese speakers for the price of his speakers.

Sounds like a negative feedback kind of guy to me! Well, maybe a neutral, but what a crappy attitude.

The big question is - did they arrive in one piece or damaged?

Ahh, shipping horror stories, don't get me started ---- well at least you got bubble wrap! I won an auction for an old SRO12 speaker awhile back . . . one of these:
![]() Those speakers weigh over 20 lbs. ---- This is what it came packaged in: ![]() The speaker was flopping around in the box when I got it. Gee, the voice coil rubbed badly when I got it ---- I wonder why? Fought with the seller for a bit but I was kind of "kid gloving" it since this was when sellers could still leave negative feedback. Ended up getting it reconed locally, but from then on anytime I bought a speaker online I always send an email asking the seller to package it well or I'll send it right back. Got a Blues Jr. from eBay last year --- the guy put the amp uncovered in a big box and then dumped a large bag of styrofoam peanuts into the box . . . . complete with leaves, dirt and what appeared to be small animal droppings. Had to completely disassemble the amp to remove all the peanuts and such. ![]() Conversely, the last speaker I bought (an EVM 15L) was packaged wonderfully --- bolted to a piece of plywood and fully encased in packing foam in a double thick cardboard box. |

Original Oxfords in a '65 Vibrolux Reverb that was shipped to me a while back:
![]() These were mounted in the cab, btw. Shipper claimed 'they were fine when they left here.'

Whenever I buy a speaker, guitar, amp - I always advise proper packing technique - solicited or not. Some folks are offended, like I should've known they knew how to pack... Some are thankful.
I'd rather assume they know nothing about packing for shipment - because most novices really don't.

Heck - I wish I had a clue as to what happened. Like I said, both speakers were flush-mounted in the cab. There was no appreciable damage to the box - a very, very slight ding, and nothing perturbed the amp within the packing material. Seller and I had a little pow-wow, and he agreed to send me $100. I don't doubt that he was BSing me all along, but who knows? After I put some replacement speakers and had a cap and bias job done, it turned out to be just a fantastic amp.
