super champ rivera question

i'm working on my rivera super champ to suit my needs and was hoping someone could chime in and answer a couple questions? first off - how do i hook up an extention cab? do i need to mod the amp for a speaker jack out or just use the line out jack? and would that terminate the speaker in the champ when you take a speaker out? i'd like to use both speakers... also, does anyone have experience replacing a 10" speaker with an 8"? any suggestions for how to mount a smaller speaker in a cab for a 10"? maybe these are silly questions but they have me stumped...

Hi,

To hook up a cab and use it together with a built in speaker I think you'll need to do a mod. I'm gonna have a tech mod the "direct out" into a speaker out - according to the tech it's an easy mod if you make the jack to serve either the extension cab or the built in speaker. Driving both seemed more complicated as far as I understood. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Smaller speaker? I think you'll need to make a new baffle board with a smaller hole that fits an 8"-speaker.

Good luck/C

It's pretty easy to replace the speaker wire coming out of the back with a 1/4" jack. You'd need to go in and simply replace the grommet with a 1/4" jack, snip the speaker wire shorter and solder it to the new jack. I think I had to enlarge the hole where the grommet was to fit the 1/4". this is well worth doing so you can experiment with different cabs. You can not use the line out for an extension speaker. To run the internal speaker and an external at the same time is more complicated. The SC runs at 8 ohm, so you would need two 4 ohm or two 16 ohm speakers wired accordingly. But then if you were only running one speaker the load would not match. Hope this helps.

I used the hole for the line out jack and just wired up my own output jack (cut wires, soldered, etc.) I would not route any holes larger in a Rivera Superchamp if you don't absolutely have to. I had no use for the line out jack.

I can thing of no reason to replace a 10 with an 8!!??
You (or someone) can mount a little right angle sheet metal bracket inside the cab and fit a jack there with no chassis mod needed. Just rewire the spkr leads.

x 2!!!

The more rational swap would be to a 12" with a new cabinet!
Or replacing the stock speaker can be an improvement. I have an EV in mine.
