A good base (NOT bass) fuzz
Looking for a fuzz to serve as sort of a base sound to build around. Thinking something with similar traits as a Ge fuzz face: warm, smooth, and cleans up well. Something where I can run my guitar full out and have some fuzz, roll the volume back a little and get an OD-ish sound, and roll it back some more for dirty cleans. However, I also need it to actually cut live in a two-guitar band and have enough versatility so that it can be tuned to different guitars/pickups/amps. It will primarily be running into a slightly breaking-up British amps as opposed to bone-clean Fenders.
From my research, it sounds like the Mojo Hand Huckleberry might fit the bill. The Keeley Fuzz Head gets a lot of positive reviews as well, though I don't know if it has the versatility I need. Is there anything else out there that would match the description of what I'm looking for? Last edited by tjs; 11-04-2009 at 08:28 PM. |

I gotta say the KR Gypsy Fuzz does exactly what you describe. IMO of course.

oxfuzz, luv it. real fat (not muddy) sounding that still cuts through with lots of edge when used against cleaner amp-sound, gets creamier against dirtier amp-sound. rolling off volume on guitar works really well IMO.

Whats funny is that my friend who owns a music store gave my friend who is his bass player the Behringer bass fuzz pedal and its awesome. I'm not even joking on this one. We all get a good laugh out of it. Get one and hide it under your bed. Only use it when no one is around. Get something expensive for your board. You want something that blends in your clean signal. Sounds fat as hell.

Malekko - B:ASSMASTER (germanium or silicon, your choice) dwarfcraft devices - Hair of the Dog Zvex - Mammoth

Thanks for the suggestions. Just to clear up any confusion, I mean "base" as in a base/fundamental sound, as opposed to an electric "bass".

A Fuzz Face should get you where you want to go.
The can be balls-out fuzzy or a nice, warm OD kinda tone when you roll back your guitar volume.

I'm personally a Tonebender kind of guy, but it sounds like you need a Fuzz Face variant. I've said it before and I'll say it again-- when it comes to Fuzz Face tones, the Analogman NKT275 Sunface is king.
