Best fuzz I have ever heard

http://www.himmelstrutz.com/gramps.htm

The clips on the site don't really do it justice IMHO.

I got a new (to me) Gibson chambered R6 a couple of weeks ago and it loves this pedal. Gramps has a gain and level knob, a "tune" knob which is a bass roll-off and a 3-way bias switch which helps get thicker or less thick fuzz. It gets ridiculously sludgey if you want - endless sustain kinda stuff that you'd expect from a good fuzz.

But my latest fave setting is with tune on zero which cuts the bass. It still sounds very fat though. Then I put the gain (cream) as low as I can before it cuts right out so I have it at around 8.00. With level at unity or slightly above, I can get some wonderfully fat, honking sounds that are incredibly touch sensitive. It's hard to describe but it's really organic sounding and is great for a dirty blues. It seems to interact with my LP and get sustain for ages.

I have never heard anyone but me mention Gramps here. Has anyone else tried one? Surely I can't be the only one??

I love the Cat's head on him all the way through! And yes, he sure can play. But the thing is that there is a whole world of tones in that pedal besides those perfect fuzztones. You can really hone the tone but it's still easy to just plug in and get a good tone. The lower gain fuzztones are just wonderful. I've always loved Beatles treble-booster/Vox tones with Casinos and they're all in there.

I hadn't seen that Fatback video before. It's pretty cool.

Glad you found a fuzz you can dig. It took years before my fuzz dream crossed my path. The Fuzzy Lady by Plum Crazy Effects. Love it.
Just so you can hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmhG9OjohhM

Hope yours keeps you happy for a long time.

interesting definition of fuzz... That sounds much much more like a distortion, maybe that's why you like it?

You may have a point. Thing is, it still IS a fuzz because I have some great OD and distortion pedals and Gramps can get way fuzzier and looser than those. But it does the low-gain stuff as well. I can get OD tones. treble booster tones and fuzz tones all out of the same pedal. I guess that's why I like it. There is so much in it.

Definitely a fuzz pedal IMO and it is my favourite fuzz too.

Low gain fuzz tones are great but the high gain sounds are equally good.

I can get a very nice Hendrix type sound out of it - especially if I stack it into my FETTO (you know, like a FF->Marshall thing). If I boost it it can also sound pretty much exactly like my Mayo.

It really is a fantastic little box.
