Good brands for round core strings?

I've been using DR Tite Fits (9-46) on my electrics and Newtone Masterclass (12-54) on my acoustic for a while now & am fairly well pleased, but I'm curious as to what else might be out there to try.

Anybody else dig round cores? I find they help a lot with my tendonitis...

Pyramid Classics are pure nickel wrap, excellent and cost more. I'm presently using Dean Markley Vintage Reissue for NPS and Dean Markley Jimi Hendrix Pure Nickel for pure nickel. Both are round core, have great sustain and punch, and are reasonably priced.

Thanks, Al! Looks like the Hendrix ones do not come in my gauges, but the others I'll have to try, in the interest of economics, at least, since they're a couple bucks cheaper per pack!

Anybody else got other round core brands I should look into?

I didn't notice the acoustic string part, Dean Markley also makes a round core acoustic string, called the 82R set. It is 80/20 bronze, and I use them on my Takamine dreadnaught. I know it sounds like I'm a shill for Dean Markley, but it just ended up that I like their strings best after trying many other brands. The 82R set is difficult to find in regular stores, but can be found at online string outlets. I checked and it comes in the 12-54 gauge you use. I don't know why Markley doesn't make the Hendrix pure nickel set in 9-46, they have that gauge for all of their other string sets. I use a custom set of 10-12-16-26-36-46 on my Gibsons and the same except a 9.5 for the first string on my Strats. I just buy a 10-46 (or 9-46) set and replace the plain strings as necessary. You might want to try that to get the 9-46 with the Hendrix strings, you can get plain strings from some sources for 60 cents each, so it would cost you an extra $2 for three of them. I don't think there is much of a difference in plain strings, so I just use EB, Gibson, GHS or whatever for replacement strings. If you liked the Hendrix strings after trying one set, you could contact Markley and see if they sell custom gauge sets. I know that GHS and others do that, but I don't know about Markley. Actually, the TiteFits you were using are NPS, so I'd definitely try the 9-46 Markley Vintage Reissue set, I think they are the best NPS strings around. I used to use them back in the 70's-80's until they changed to hex core, and when I found out they were making them again I jumped. Also, Musician's Friend sells 12 packs of them for really cheap.

Good luck,
Al
