Korg pandora px5d Scott Henderson
I was just checking out the Korg pandora px5d on their website. They have some quotes of Scott Henderson raving about it saying that it is his favorite amp modeling unit out of any of the software or hardward units. This may be worth checking out....

I bought one and returned it after a few days. The amp sims sounded ok, but the problem I had was that the effects were barely configurable. For example, delay only allowed you to adjust level - no settings for time, feedback, etc. Same with reverb.
In the end I bought a Pocket Pod instead. Mark |

I have been using one for about a year now as my main practice box. I really like it, especially the PC interface. I can't comment on the effects as I have found the best sounds are found just using the amp models with a sprinkle of compression and reverb. The phrase trainer and the drum loops are especially cool.

Just bought one after using a Pod for several years--travel rig. The Korg's amp sims are indeed quite good as pocket-sims go--I like 'em better than the L6 counterparts. True also what Mark said, min tweaking on the FX. I tend to use sparing-to-no FX, so it worked for me. BTW, I almost never use phrase trainers or drum machines, so that didn't come into my equation.
That said, I'm interested in opinions of the Pocket Pod...how's the tweakability Mark? --Ray

To do any major tweaking on the Pocket Pod, you need to use the Vyzex software which is included. With this software, you have a lot of configurability. For example:
- Typical amps include bass, mid, treble, presence, drive, volume, and reverb level controls - The reverb further gives you the option of room or spring with decay, tone, diffusion, and density controls - A noise gate is also standard with threshold and decay - You can have two effects... for example delay (with coarse and fine delay time, feedback, and level controls) and chorus (with speed, depth, feedback, and predelay controls) - There are further controls such as wah pedal (position, bottom frequency, and top frequencey), "air" (I think this tweaks the cabinet sound), and some toggles for distortion, drive, and eq. As you can see, there are a lot of options to help you customize a sound. I'm really impressed with how much you get for your money with the Pocket Pod. Mark |

Nice list indeed. I was frankly surprised that even via the GUI software no such tweaks come with the Korg. Strange, given that such things are pretty much standard in the DSP world these days. I must say, when I do use FX, I find the limitation annoying.
--Ray PS..."air." A cool feature L6 has had since forever. It simulates a little ambient noise and reflection beyond simple reverb. Best used for recording and going DI, but not so much in front of an amp. Nice touch, that.
