Basic Audio Custom Spooky Tooth

John made me a kick ass double pedal last year that I still think is one of the more unique looking stomps out there(and one I still love to death, John, many thanks!), but that one contained Wildcat and Scarab circuits, respectively, and I'd been really missing another of the Basic Audio stomps I'd tried from the tour boxes I'd liked just as much:

The Basic Audio Spooky Tooth.

Now enroute, I cannot WAIT for this pedal to get here! Not much to say about it, really, which is a good thing. Its one of those bad-ass fuzzes you'd rather just get up on and jam through than sit around talking about. Its a loud(!), sludgey(when you want it to be) fuzz box that'll slurp your damn face off and splat it on the wall about 20 feet behind you if you're dumb enough to stand in front of an amp at volume and challenge this pedal.

TONS of controllable Output allow you to dial in a precision balance of discrete component fuzz vs tube saturation, which is one of my favorite ways of running an amp; the Fuzz/OD halvsies. If you run this pedal into an amp with a Master Volume you'd be enjoying about a thousand different tones, all of em good. You don't need a Master Volume on your amp to enjoy this or any Basic Audio stomp, but it would allow you to run the Spooky Tooth's Level higher(Unity Gain on a humbucker-equipped guitar is usually at about 10:00!!), which just slams the living crap out of your amp's preamp tubes.

John is one hell of a creative guy. I gave him the essential idea for this, and he did his thing with it, and I love what he came up with. His hammerite jobs are quickly becoming some of the best I've seen, and this black and gold job should catch your eye as much as it did mine.

I haz had and do haz have a whole lotta luv for my buddy John, and I gotta thank him again for such a fantastic looking piece of unique artistry. The(rough) enclosure was hand-made by a friend of his, and is one of a kind, so before everyone starts asking, at this time there aren't any more available, BUT..

If you know someone that can work aluminum, do please let John or I know.

There are several GREAT Basic Audio standard production pedals, but John clearly excels at doing custom work, and that's something I can resonate with in spades and truly respect as an artist myself.

Enough talk.

Thanks again, John!

Teh pr0n:

And just for giggles, here's the first Basic Audio custom box he made me:

Beautiful work, John and Sickle. The Basic Audio pedal line is one of the best values for the money.

Congrats on the new pedal!

That's just sick! I always wondered what happened to that box. Perfect fit for that pedal. The hammerite paint job is awesome. John's custom pieces always kick ass.

I'm gonna go plug into my Spooky, crank the volume on both the box and my amp, and stand 3 feet in front of it!

Very creative on both enclosures.
I don't believe I have seen a pedal with the jewel light.
And the pcb top on the other one is kick ass!

There's some clips posted above from the same Spooky Tooth circuit! The Spooky Tooth is a regular production build offered by John, we just put this one into a one-off enclosure.

So the pedal arrived today. Whooeee, man, I LOVE this thing!!

On a baritone it gets reeeaally buzzy, like a pissed off Mosrite! You can't distinguish a true ghost octave like you can in the note blooms of some Fuzzrites, but you can hear it tightly wound into the fuzz when you play chords, it really pops out and gives you this harshness to chords that sounds pretty awesome. This is a KICK ASS pedal and I'm really REALLY pleased with it.

John, you did an INCREDIBLE job on this one!!

Some more pr0n:

For scale, I shot it sitting on my Unidrive:
