Here's trouble, trying to understand thread deletion...

I'm new-ish here. I understand religion/politics are taboo.

There's quite a big thread about amps to use in church. I read some of it, as I used to play in churches. Then I saw a thread about amps suitable for athiests. I did a little chuckle but didn't have time to read it. I went back today to find it but I think its gone.

If so, was it deleted because of the topic (atheism mentioned) or because it was a tongue-in-cheek poke at another thread (thus the people involved, thus their beliefs, perhaps), or because it descended into chaos or rule breaking of some kind?

I am still a 'believer', not as ardent as many. I thought it was going to be funny, but i didn't get to read it.

If seems strange one is allowed, one has been deleted, but there may be things I don't understand about that so it would be good to know.

If I was going to be cheeky I might say the church amp thing should have been retitled 'amps suitable for situations where a range of stirring, generic rock, pop and ballad tones are required at varying volumes'. Sorry, I don't like much church music anymore!! But I don't like Black Metal either, or that newfangled Athiest bluegrass music (okay I made that up)

So, uh, my question is, whats the deal with those 2 threads? So this is a question about policy I guess, not about religion per se.

There is now a Praise and worship forum for those kinds of threads and posts. The other was an uncalled for shot at those types of threads. I have no dog in the fight, just stating my take on how the rules were broken.

Consistent application of the maxim of "no harm" always works. Creating discord is discouraged.

I think that's about it.

I got "the letter" awhile back. I put up something for discussion about what happens when your music leaves your control and is used in ways that you abhor. The particular context had a political undercurrent that was deemd too likley to promote discord, so it was axed. While it was not my intent to cause harm, I understand how that can happen unintentionally.

Its ok with me. Some folks get stirred up about it, but "netland" isn't that big a deal in my life, so...

DS

I read the thread in Q right before it was deleted .... you did not miss much. It did not have much humor in it or anything really out of what people are using.

This Forum is private property and if they want something deleted for any reason .... they should delete it.

When I opened it I though it would be about well known atheist artist and their gear. There are a lot of them. In fact I see post talking about them on here all the time. But not their beliefs.

I also know a number of atheist / agnostics that post here often .... they make up about 14 % of the world population and I would guess it would be about the same in here.

For many beliefs are a touchy subject .... anything they do not understand or is different in any way from what they see as fit upsets them. .... In some ways I feel sorry for these people.

I think I can understand why it would be deleted here.

Seems pretty clear to me.

The first is a legitimate question that has nothing to do with religion. The second is a mean-spirited poke that has everything to do with religion.

Cut and dry.

Yeah, they're never quite sure the amp is there or not...

I have Buddhist tendencies; No amp in my collection is permanent and they all keep getting reborn as something else.

Political correctness was never meant to be fair. Once you understand that concept , its all good.
