Speaking of bad driving

Have you all noticed what I have been seeing? Someone driving along and then suddenly and frantically needs to cross all lanes to reach a turn or gets in a turn lane and then suddenly franctically needs back into the traffic lane? Crossing gores and double lines etc.

I assume they are not paying attention to the road signs and GPS told them some info? That is all I can figure.

The problem is more people texting are causing accidents these days than DUI's. It is extremely dangerous out there right now.

yeaup! crazy last minute ditch. The other one that freaks me out is the person merging onto the highway, then jumping into the fast lane in one swoop. I've almost been hit quite a few times!

The GPS slant is valid too in this case. As interchanges are rebuilt the GPS systems don't know of the change and tell you to take the wrong way. If you're not very observant and don't also pay attention to signage you could find yourself going the wrong way.

Yup... Nobody seems to be bothered when there is a car next to them for miles on end. They seem to do it on purpose. Then, when they have to change lanes, they are surprised that there is a car next to them. 90% of the time I almost get in an accident, it's been due to people changing lanes abruptly sans looking.

The schooling instinct is alive and well........

I like the ones that plant the GPS right in the middle of their line of sight on the windshield....I've been seeing that more and more.

there was this chick that was going from the fastest to exit about 4 lanes. she was in first left lane and I was in second i couold not reallyu slow down enough so i had to move a lane to the right as she moved from first to second. I moved second to 3rd. then she did it again so did I. then she did it a third time and i got slowed down and blasted the horn and she went on to the exit lane and as I passed her she shook her cell phone at me in her left hand as if to say 'WHY ARE YOU BLOWING YOUR HORN AT ME I AM ON THE PHONE!!!"

Heaven help us if people ever start keeping both hands on the wheel, check all 3 mirrors frequently, use their signal lights, keep a safe distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them, don't use a cell phone, and GREAT GOSH A'MIGHTY LEARN HOW TO READ A MAP!!!

If they did these things, how would we react to the calmness on the road?

This is all on local roads both two and four lane. My commute thankfully keeps me off the interstate.

I have driven 4,086 miles in the last 8 weeks in a 30 foot RV towing a car.

I have seen every kind of driving that can make you crazy, but the top three involve lane changing: Insane lane changing with no signals, usually caused by inattention (read: on the phone) and lack of planning; absolute refusal to give way when I'm signaling and trying to make a lane change; passing me on the right in the breakdown lane and then pulling directly in front of me with the assumption that I have the same maneuverability as a car.

I always have had a healthy respect for guys and gals driving the 18 wheelers, and my own experiences have reinforced that respect.

Yes, people are morons.
Yes, people don’t know how to drive.
Yes, people are inherently selfish and narcissistic and yes, this spills out onto all areas of life, including driving, strangely.
Yes, texting whilst driving is bad.
Yes, drinking and driving is bad.
Yes, we are all mad about it.
Yes, life is too short to waste your breath on things that don’t matter in the long run

I only brought it up because I think it is a fairly new behavior brought on by the electronic voice commanding you to turn. I am a geologist; I can read and usually memorize a map route.

Not mad about it just seems to be a dependence that is creating lapses.

I am sorry. My post was more of an overreaction to the myriad of traffic/driving related threads we get here on TGP.

I would agree with your sentiment, completely. As a society we are getting more and more reliant on things that will make us dumber in the long run.
