Does anyone here have ADD?

Do you have A.D.D?
How has it affected your musical endeavours and goals?
How has it affected your life?
What has been the most effective treatment for you?
Additional experiences...

Thanks B

I've struggled on and off for years. It's definitely affected my songwriting. No question.
I get bored very easily. If I have to concentrate too long, I just give up. I noodle a ton, though and it's made a good bit of my playing second nature. I dabble on this, then on that, etc. I do tend to feel very creative at times. I also have amazing multi tasking abilities when under stress. I can also stay ultra focused for short periods. Playing guitar, mountain biking, snowboarding and driving unbelievably fast seem to be far easier for me than most people.

I try to meditate regularly. It's difficult to sit down, but once I get going it's OK.
I use some herbal supplements that have helped to lift the fog. The product is by a company called New Chapter. I only notice after a week of running out. I may try a pharmaceutical at some point, though I've been saying that for years.

I haven't been very good at career stuff. Doing manual labor has been good mostly, but like anything, staying organized and having good planning skills is essential to success in any field. Relationships are sometimes tough because the S.O. tends to interpret me as uninterested. Good communication has helped.

Overall, I feel that I lost a little confidence in myself as I developed into adulthood. I think that has had the greatest affect on me. I think as a result, I've perhaps set lower goals for myself than I truly feel capable.

Sounds sad doesn't it?

Good Luck,
John

PS It took me twenty minutes to complete this. People who read my writing tend to think I'm smart. People who talk to me for the first time tend to think I'm an idiot. (First impressions have been tough.)

I don't know if I have "clinical" ADD. I do know I have always had a short attention span and it worsens every year.

So far it has had little effect on me since I retired at 40 and my time is my own. Excepting this guitar thing. I really wish to become an accomplished player (started about 4 years ago) but I can't drive myself to sit down and learn new stuff for any length ot time. I find myself in front of this internet portal or a TV. At least in front of the TV I am usually noodling a bit too so there is some improvement.

What were we talking about? I like kittens.

I bought a book about ADD once. I never finished it.

I have had very similar experiences as jaydub69. I switch careers every couple of years -and it's usually a major switch - from teacher to photographer to programmer, etc...
aargh!

My wife sure does.

Her brain literally re~boots every single night.

I'll tell her something IMPORTANT! The next day she swears I never said a word?

Ugh!

I have a very difficult time working on Tabs. I can not play solos. I start... get distracted...forget where I was, what I did and where I should go next.

I often forget to put my pants on before going to work. I'm not sure if it's ADD or the senility kicking in.

Don't you mean to ask...who actually has a problem and who uses it as an excuse when they can't pay attention to something they're not interested in?

It has been suggested on more than one occasion that I be tested for it. When I don't care for something, I don't pay attention to it. When I'm into it, I'm almost scary in regards to how much of my attention is given.

I can relate to that.
When I am interested in something I will soak it up like I was born knowing all about it in a very short time.
Other things I could care less about.
