I am re-reading the book right now. I'll probably finish it before watching the movie. So yes, I am looking forward to it. No Country was a great movie, Pretty Horses was decent.

I just hope it doesn't go too much toward the action/adventure side of things.

me neither. I hope they stay completely in the darkness and the despair.

I am also re-reading it for the 4th or 5th time.

I'm afraid that they're going to beef up the wife role for Charlize Theron. She wasn't really even in the book.

I kinda got that impression from the trailer as well. I'm sure there will be some liberties taken with the storyline.

I just hope Will Smith doesn't show up in a mechanical spider.

I've been combing some interview videos. I came across an interview with the screenplay writer. He says that everything went past Cormac for approval. There was some give and take on each side, but they showed the finished movie to him and he really liked the way it turned out.

That's good enough for me, but I still don't particularly like the fact that they wrote in more for her character. Hopefully it ends up not being much and they just needed some more "star-power" in the trailer to sell tickets.

Very good to hear. I should have figured he would not let it be butchered.

The wife's character will probably be portrayed through a series of flashbacks......seems like the only plausible way to do so without overdoing it.

yep, and I guess some at the beginning to establish the plot more for the unimaginative folks out there.

I thought the book was brilliant, but I was depressed for a week after finishing it. If the movie does the book any justice, then I have no desire to see it!

Don't be afraid to feel those feelings. its good to feel them because it helps you embrace, deal with, and work through some emotions about yourself instead of internalizing them. One of the reasons why I loved this book. . . and others like it.

Thanks for posting this, I completely forgot this was coming out this year. I've only read the book once so far -- great book. Loaned it to a friend who read it and he's excited about the movie as well.

I sorta feel the same way....was completely entranced by the pace and language, but it touched a scary nerve with me, as far as being a father. Actually, "touched a nerve" isn't quite strong enough, more like continuously stabbed me in the brain with fear for my son... You could say i'm a bit of an emotional parent, i suppose......

Can't see the movie matching that true sense of darkness. Film can't really capture silence as terror, or emptiness, emotional or the actual literal empty cities....I might see it, but was really trying to get my wife to read it first....

cheers

I just finished the book... it resonates on so many levels.

Looking forward to the movie. A great casting choice for 'Papa.'
