Question Cabinet for Goodsell Super 17 Head?

Thinking about the Mesa Boogie widebody 1X12 (w/Celestion 90w). Would it make that much of a difference vs. the regular/compact 1X12? More low-end?

Goodsell users: another cabinet recommendation?

Thanks!

I am so impressed with the Goodsell Super 17 head. I will be purchasing one after the holidays. I think you may be better off with a lower wattage speaker. I spoke to Richard, and he recommends a Celestion G12H30 speaker. I am considering an Avatar Vintage G112 cab with the G12H30 speaker.

Thanks. I was aware that RG liked that speaker. I could always put that in the MB cab if I go that direction. Cant' wait to get this rig together ...

The matchless 2x12 sounds amazing with this rig. My matchless has stayed even though my Goodsell left (#23).

I recently converted my Goodsell Super 7 into a head (I've gotta get some pictures!) and am running it through an Avatar 1x12 Vintage with a Hellatone 30 (which is their broken-in G12H30) and it sounds great. The highs are a little smoother than the combo speaker I was using, and there's a bit more midrange as a result. The whole amp just sounds a little bit bigger as a result of the larger cab vs. the small cab and bright speaker of the combo (which already sounded great). The Avatar is the only cab I have, but it doesn't leave me wanting something different, either.

I've got a Red Fang Eminence in the old larger Mark 2. cab. Sounds huge and very balanced. Warm undertones and high-end sparkle galore.

That's great. I was considering the Hellatone 30 as well. Did you go with the partial open back with the Avatar Vintage 1x12 cab?

Yeah, mine's a partial open back. I don't know how much punchier the closed back might be, but the open back sounds good with the chime of the Goodsell.

Thanks. Curious, what was the stock speaker that came in the Goodsell Super 7?

I'm not sure. It's a Goodsell branded speaker, and I think that Richard has them made by Warehouse Speakers? It's a pretty bright speaker--I run the tone knob at less than a quarter of the way up (I play an ASAT, a Strat, and a Reverend through it primarily, so they're all bright guitars to begin with). Oh, here--straight from an e-mail I received from Richard back when I bought the amp--"It is a very light speaker that combines a ceramic magnet with a Jensen-type basket and cone. Think of it as a P12Q with a ceramic magnet instead of AlNiCo."

Thanks to all -- especially Goodsell user jatmosphere -- for the cabinet advice. Just ordered an Avatar 1X12 with a Hellatone 30 for my Super 17. Can't wait!

I just purchased a Goodsell Super 17 Head with the 5/17 triode/pentode switch yesterday. I am going to pair the amp with an Avatar G212H Premier Traditional Cab with 1 Celestion V30 and 1 G12H30. I can't wait to receive the amp and speaker cab.

Congrats! You've been eyeing one for a while now. Enjoy!

Took you long enough!

Ha, actually it took over a year from the time I first played one to the purchase of my first amp.

That's gonna be a monster rig right there. Congrats.

Thanks guys. I needed to wait until after the holidays to execute the purchases. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to play the amp; however, I was extremely diligent with questions, listening to sound clips, and reviewing testimonials. It is a significant purchase for me and my first experience with a boutique amp. TGP is a tremendous resource and certainly helped in my decision. Richard Goodsell has been amazing as well.
