Very, very true. My post was blunt to the point of flippancy as it stands. What it largely suggests is that those that look to external circumstances to find happiness are destined to be thwarted and frustrated. This applies to not only material things, but also to relationships, careers, etc. Certain circumstances might make happiness easier or more difficult to attain, but happiness itself is more about the headspace of the individual.
It is also noteworthy that happiness is typically a rather ephemeral experience, and people should remind themselves of that when they are unhappy. And empathy and compassion are much more profound emotions and outlooks.
