Affordable east coast beach towns ??

So....

My wife is from the Jersey Shore. I grew up in Md / DC area. We both LOVE the beach and really feel landlocked in Nashville and may wanna move to a town that is on - or very close to - the beach

anybody have any ideas of affordable cities that are very beach oriented ?

we've recently been to Virgina Beach , Sanibel Fla , and Dewey Beach, De

where else would you suggest we visit as we pursue finding a new home town ?

we are pretty footloose and fancy free and have no kids - so school districts and the like are not factors

"Affordable" is a very wide-ranging and subjective term!

I'm from the Rehoboth/Dewey area, and we still have a place on the beach just north of Bethany. That is WAY preferable to OC, MD to me, but there are some really nice places in So.Jersey, like Avalon, Stone Harbor and Cape May. Senile City isn't bad either. Not sure what things start going for as you get further north, but I have friends in the Red Bank/Long Branch area that really love it.

Not sure if that helps - if you're looking for a 12 month town, that might also change things up a bit. Many of the East Coast beach towns have expanded the seasons in the last decade or two, but the winter months can be, well, DEAD in most places! It's a long haul from November to March sometimes.

The Annapolis, MD area (Anne Arundel Co.) has a lot of REALLY nice spots near the Bay - you're probably very familiar with that though from living around here.

I live on the beach just like Jim Rockford - except in a house with a wife and kids not in a mobile home.

I live in a small town called Westport in MA that's really affordable. It's great in the summer and I like the beach in the winter so it's cool for me. Only bad thing is my commute to Boston is a pain, but to me it's worth it.

My wife's family is in MD and they have a place in Ocean City which is fun for a couple weeks, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Buy a few more acres outside of Nashville and build your own lake.

"Affordable East Coast Beach Towns?" That has got to be an oxymoron if ever there was one. Anytime the wife and I vacationed close to a beach, we peeked at the local real estate mags available at local grocers, etc. Always an eye opener, but the Carolinas seemed to be the most reasonable.

Rhode Island Coast, from Westerly to Narragansett. I'd live there in a minute.

Westerly and Narragansett are not really cheap though. Guild was in Westerly for years.

haha NC Coast used to be affordable until people from the northeast drove the prices up... FWIW south florida prices have plummeted over the last couple of years

Though it might be more of a drive or flight than you want.
