WHen are we going to stop calling them "flat screen tv's"...

and just start calling them TV's again? It's not like you can still buy the other kind. I don't remember calling my tv a Tube TV when I had it. This must be like the days when people referred to cars as "Horseless Carriages" to distinguish from transportation methods with horse and without.

Maybe more like talking about Colour TV to distinguish from black and white TV. Probably 3-5 years.

Better analogy, thanks. I do remember calling set's color or B&W as recently as the early 80's. I had a B&W 19" tv in college.

Many people still own and use tube TVs. I'd say the term "flat panel TV" will die down by 2015, at which point it will reverse and the distinction will go to become "tube TV" for the minority.

I'm waiting for them to reissue the RCA Historic VOS TV. Rumor has it that it will even show those little dots on screen when you turn it off.

Well there's also DLPs and projectors, so they can't just be called 'TVs' yet.

I'll put this on my give a damn list after I finish making some Xerox's, change the baby's pampers, make calls from my cell phone, eat a Popsicle, put the Ziplock bags away, Velcro my pedals, eat some Jello and wipe my nose with a Kleenex.

PS Who cares?

Agreed.

I'm watching my "Tube TV" right now even though as a Trinitron it is also technically a "flat screen".

It just isn't that thin...kinda like it's owner.

Now that California is limiting power consumption on TVs, those on the West Coast may be returning to tube TVs!

I still have a tube tv and don't forsee buying a flat screen in the near future and until everyone has one then they will probably still be referred to as a flat screen.

Its really nothing to get terribly upset over. Its just a way of distinguishing between the different types of televisions. Just like Plasma, LCD and now the new LED TV's. There will always be different versions of the TV.
