Big guys......how do you dress cool for gigs, etc??
Ok,
I'm 6', 300LBs (I know, I know.....don't give me shit....I'm working on it!) I'm sick of dressing like crap, and all the bad options the Dept stores have. Short of getting custom tailored duds, what do ya'll fellow big folk wear? Even finding decent fitting jeans sucks. I was always a "thrift store chic" kinda guy....but my size and the nature of my gigs kinda precludes that. Any suggestions? Thanks! PS....any rude or personal comments or nasty jokes WILL be ignored and/or reported. |

I have some skin in this thread, literally.... Been wondering on this topic for a while. I've dropped some, but not to the point where stuff fits right and can be bought from the "normal" section of said Dept stores.

Check out Bigandtall.com they sell jeans. My wife's cousin is a big guy and it's the only place he can find jeans.

Big guy here.
I usually wear my green cargo pants (baggy, to hold picks, phone, keys and such away from my guitar), a fun tshirt (see the shirt woot website) and a beat up but cool looking button down (unbuttoned) to cover some spots. Also, it may look like shit but I can't play a gig without a bandana or something on my head to catch the sweat before it burns my eyes in the middle of a blazing solo. |

I don't know if size matters.. you have to be cool first... I mean, our singer always tries to dress cool (not a big guy).. but no matter what he does.. he just will never be cool...lol... but we let him hang around with us anyhow...

Let me kinda clarify my point. I have no problem finding clothes mildly suitable for everyday life, like basic shirts, Levi's, and such. But they are below or just barely average on the "style-o-meter." If I want anything with any stylistic flair or "upscale" attitude to it at all, its not easy to find. Every once in a while, I'd like to go out with the wife and have a GQ moment. I'm kinda stuck in that middle place. The big end of the regular clothes are a bit too small, and the Big & Tall stuff is way too big.
It doesn't help that I'm not Big AND Tall. It seems like these custom clothing retailers forget that there are Big and Short people too..

Some big guys don't seem to find the need to look "cool" or "stylish" or to exude "flair"...with anything other than a guitar.
Does anyone really notice/care what this guy is wearing? ![]() Just sayin'..... |

One word: black.
I'm down 120 pounds from my worst, but still have trouble finding anything in regular clothing stores, so "cool" for me is usually some kind of godawfully gaudy guitar set against your basic Johnny Cash ensemble. (Kind of the "distraction theory", I guess...) Another tip: if you see something you like at a Mr. Fat and Large-type store, buy several, because you never know when they'll have anything remotely stylin' again...otherwise it's all just business suits and fake-Hawaiian tent shirts. |
