Ideal 20-Watt or Less Tube Amp Head for Pedals?

Since I use several overdrive, treble boost, and fuzz pedals, with an Ethos TLE to come early next year, I'm looking for a lower wattage tube amp that sounds good clean and would also serve well when its tubes break up with OD, TB, Fuzz, & Distortion pedals.

If anyone wants to suggest a combo amp for this, as long as the built-in speaker could definitely be disconnected and then the amp could then be connected to an external speaker (AxeTrak), then I'd consider that.

Thanks, guys---I'm really racking my brains over this.

How boutique do you wanna go with this?

Jet City 20 watt is new but rumored to be real good
Egnator Rebel
Vox Night Train
Blackstar Stuff
THD stuff
Orange Tiny Terror...

and of course there are tons more, but those are what I thought of without putting much thought into it really...

Well, I've been considering the Suhr Badger and the Fargen Mini Plex MKII, so boutique is OK---I'll just have to wait that much longer to save up for it. If I could get something good for considerably less, so much the better.

The purists may scoff, but my early 80's Hiwatt Lead 20 is an absolute dream. a little tricky to find one, but if you see one, buy it. Seriously!

+1. It's rated 22 watts tho. Can you handle the extra 2 watts?

I miss my Z28. I'll get one again. Should sound wicked in stereo with the hayseed.

There seems to be a lot of love for Dr Z amps; how good would the Mini Z be?

for the price -- Tiny Terror -- awesome gain, but at 15w, if you are looking for bedroom -> small church volume, it has some headroom.

ill be looking for a tube swap on mine soon for even more headroom

Ive played a deluxe reverb reissue at at 22w (i think ) that think has a ton of head room. it also weighs a metric ton.

i want to try a Z-28 sooo bad.
anyone in iowa wanna let me borrow one for a weekend?
Does the Z have a lot of headroom?
