really? voodoo chile is one of the most generic wah sounds in the world. if you're talking price, my jimi hendrix dunlop did the trick just fine, and served me well for years. for some more versatility, check out wilson wahs. my vintage spec 12 spot rippah q wah is amazing.

My Favorite current production go to wah for Hendrix is the RMC Picture wah
http://realmccoycustom.com/RMCPW.htm My second choice s the RMC Joe Walsh Signature Model, nuff said there. http://realmccoycustom.com/JWSW.htm If you can not get the Studio as well as live Voodoo tones out of these two then the problem is somewhere else. The FFT circuit works great with Fuzz, does not synth out like so many others.GeoffreyTeese by the way was (THE) Authorized Vox Wah service guy for many yearsI think he would know what you need better than anyone else. My favorite, over my Area 51:
http://www.gig-fx.com/audio/megawaha...hawahaudio.htm Listen to all the tracks. It cuts, is versatile, doubles as a volume pedal.

No really, the treadle manipulation of the legendary track's intro maybe patently obvious, but the tone? well now, that's something I consider a bit of a mysterey. The closest I've got to the gypsy masters washboard twacking was with TWO wahs, one cocked at half open notch and the second for back and forths. On another occassion I near nailed it while borrowing a DOD FX wah with a really short treadle range and unusually throaty tone signature. If you have any suggstions beyond a vintage Vox, of which I'm already an owner, please elaborate. Also, I hear good things about Keeley's V847 Yellow Fasel w/TB mod, thanks!!

The closest to an original Vox V846. I have an original and I am certain that he used a V846 for Voodoo Child.

I can vouch for this. I picked up a used RMC Wheels of Fire wah and it handles anything you throw at it (or techincally after it I guess).
To the OP, I'd say go with something tweakable. RMC has several 3 knob models and Fulltone makes some great versitale wahs. That way you can have some basis to tweak the tone until you get close to what you are looking for. You can find them for under $200 routinely. |
