Ibanez Jet King

What do you guys think about it? It's cheap and it looks really cool. I tried one in a store today - it was a little heavy and had way too light strings, so could be better. Also tried it on an amp I hadn't tried before. Are the pickups P90s, or something else?

They come in a lot of configurations, so if the pickups look like P-90s, they are probably equivalents.

I saw one in a pawn shop and tried it. I'm a big Ibanez fan (obviously) but I didn't like the massiveness of the JetKing body. It looked kind of cheesy to me.

The guy in my band has one. Two humbucker model. Change the tuners, new nut and some wiring upgrades and it is not bad. But for what he has in it $$$ wise, maybe not such a great deal. Fat neck!

They are cool and kinda funky. I had one a few years back. It was the second run, with the thick neck (first version had the aluminum pickguard and a super skinny neck). It was pretty darn heavy, but sounded good. One thing to note is the nut width is pretty wide, in fact it felt MUCH wider than the standard 43mm on a Fender. For an inexpensive guitar I think it's pretty hard to beat.

I dig my 1st gen. model. When I got it in trade, it looked like this.

Got it for a Boss Auto-Wah and $50 (not too shabby!). After doing a setup, it balances and plays extremely well w/good intonatio & low action. Not the finest tuners ever put on an axe but good enough for the $$. Didn't care for the tones, though, so I replaced the stock PUPs with a GFS Mean 90 in the neck and SD '59 in the bridge. Still not up to snuff so, next, I swapped out the stock volume control. Wa-la: sounds great now. (In fact, if I were doing it over, I'd start with the volume control swap - I'll bet the stock PUPs sound fine.)

This is now my "hangs on the wall always/quick grab" axe and I'm quite happy with it!

There's something I really like about the Jet King. It must have a bit of Airline DNA, I think.

I have one of their earlier models, I like it. I think they made a mistake on the newer models doing away with the pup switches;

I really liked the looks of the one I tried, but I can't find a pic anywhere. It looked like the one in the post over mine, but was white, and the pickguard had squares, kinda flannel looking.
