Which Amp Would You Choose for a 70's Band?
The tittle says it all,
"Which Amp would you choose for a 70's Band? We will be playing all sort of 70's music [Dance, Funk, Disco, Rock etc...] I'll be using a pair of PRS McCarty's [1 w/ Humbuckers & 1 with P90's] Right now I have a Fender Blues Jr NOS but not sure I'll get the clean I need. I have in mind the following Amps: 1. Fender Tonemaster head with 2x12 matching cabinet. 2. Rivera Venus 6 Combo [1x12 or 2x12] 3. Rivera Clubster 45 1x12 Combo Which other combo or head & cab you recommend? [Up to a 2x12 but 1x12 is Highly preferred] thanks for your help regards, Charles |

This may surprise you but I suggest the Fender(Rivera) Twin Reverb II. Throw any Greenback in alongside one of the Eminence/EV's already present and you will have a pedal friendly time machine, capable of everything from psychedelic, progressive, fusion, funk/soul, country, blues, SRV to Hendrix and even early era EVH. Best of luck with your efforts!

70s rock'n'roll/disco/funk/dance?
Dr Z Galaxie - channel 1 has great cleans, a la late 50s tweed Super, Pro and low-powered Twin; channel 2 has a great full-on rock'n'roll gain. With a G12-65, the 112 combo will cover lots a ground ... and add in a coupla pedals? Oh yes! Plays well with Strats,Teles, LPs, ES-style guitars and others too. cheers always, eh Joel

Get an efficient amp with nice cleans. A Twin Reverb is not a bad recommendation. Try to grab a silverface, and invest in a distortion pedal or two. You can go with just about anything from there, music-wise.
